This page details one or more prototype versions of Ice Age 2: The Meltdown (PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Windows, Wii).
General Differences#
- The build has debug text throughout. It is credited to the person "Charlotte Chen" from "Tips & Tricks". The text also shows that the build data is from December 16, 2005, shows how many minutes you have played the game, and shows your coordinates.
Copyright Screen#
The copyright screen has a mention for Fox Interactive that got removed.

Opening Logos#
- The Blue Sky Studios logo is shown in 4:3 instead of stretched 16:9. The background is also lighter, and the logo does not zoom in or fade to black at the end.

Final |
|---|---|
- After the Blue Sky logo, the Fox Interactive logo is present which got removed from the final.
Title Screen#
- The game's logo does not move to the top-left after enough time.
- The title screen animation is much shorter. When Scrat is happily holding his nut, a snowball is suddenly thrown at him as the nut flies upwards. The animation then loops.
- The attract demo just uses the intro cutscene, seemingly as a placeholder.
Menus#
- The bonus features are different. Every bonus feature has a different name except for "Harper Collins". For example, this build has "Bonus: Scrat" instead of "Chris Wedge". These were most likely placeholders.
- The text does not shrink for larger text.
Credits#
- The glacier with the text does not disappear.
- The text comes in from the right and left and combine to show the text.
- Text is shown in its usual color instead of in blue.
- Text is arranged differently.
- There are two errors at some parts of the credits, where the text goes offscreen. Even when played in the in-game 16:9 widescreen mode, the text still cuts off.

- All of the voice actors show "TBD" except for the second one which shows "JTBD".
Loading Screen#
- The snowflakes are a bit buggy, as they may not show for a few seconds.
- The nut is located closer to the "Loading..." text. It is also a golden nut instead of a regular nut.
Gameplay Differences#
- When collecting a specific number of walnuts to progress through a level, the "door unlocked" sound effect plays when Scrat dances instead of when the camera shows the scurry hole.
- When climbing up a slippery wall, the icon for the triangle button is different.
- The same icon is used when digging for objects or pulling out nuts, but there is a meter below showing the progress of the dig/pull.
- The scent vision does not play its own music. The lines showing the scent are also white and thick instead of yellow and thin.
- The walnuts have a different texture. The icon was unchanged, however.
- There is a small debug feature enabled. Pressing Select will put you in free-fly mode, which will make the debug text show "NOT UNDERWATER" or "UNDERWATER" depending on if you are flying underwater or not. Pressing △ will make you move vertically up, while pressing ✕ will make you move vertically down. The left stick or D-pad let you move in this state.
Unused Video#
- The Vivendi Universal Games logo is present in the files. This is only used on the final Japanese version, where it replaces the Sierra Entertainment logo.
