Adjustments & Fixes#

Between this prototype and the Jampack Summer 2001 demo, the following adjustments were made:

  • The reversed runes on capsules in the Altar Room were properly adjusted and finalized.

Jampack Summer Demo

OPM Demo

  • This shot during the arrival of the shadows at Spiral Stairs has the camera zoomed out.
  • The forms of the initial two shadow creatures at Spiral Stairs have been altered. Initially they took the form of two enemy_umiushi. In this build, they're an enemy_inu and enemy_toge respectively.
  • Shadow creatures can now knock Ico to the ground with their attacks.
  • Yorda sinks slowly into shadow nests, now remaining visible until just before a 'Game Over' sequence is initiated.
  • The box used in Dark Room now resembles the boxes seen in the final releases.
  • Iron fences were added to both the windmill staircase and the platforms leading up to the idols.
  • The promotional video at the end of the demo starts with the phrase 'Coming Soon...' rather than 'Coming Summer 2001'. A scene where Ico blows up a bomb was altered.

Differences From US Retail Release#

AI#

Yorda#

  • Instead of making a small gasp when caught by a shadow creature, this build has Yorda let out three variations of a yelp.

Controls#

  • If you press the 'Select' button on the 2nd Controller, even without a single debug cheat enabled, a developer test for the Queen's magic wave effect extends from Ico. This is the first build where the effect is seen implemented.
  • If the player holds down the R1 button in the Altar Room or Warehouse maps, the camera turns towards a target out of bounds, rather than not reacting at all.

Encounters#

  • In the encounter at Spiral Stairs, the shadow creatures that abduct Yorda do not respawn. Thus, by allowing them to capture Yorda twice, players can end the fight without attacking the enemies or using the idol gates.
