Crossbow#
The Witcher 3 is an open-world title, which allows players to explore all sorts of terrain, including mountains and oceans. However, fighting underwater with swords and fire-based offensive spells would present some difficulties, so the developers needed to come up with a unique underwater weapon. The result was the crossbow.
In the books, however, it is explicitly stated that Witchers don't use crossbows, leaving fans of the books asking questions about this design choice, which the developers were forced to explain on the forums.
