To do:

  • There's more unused character design concepts to cover and document.

Before the masters of Street Fighter 6 entered the screen in World Tour and Fighting Ground, the team designed each one's main and alternate outfit concepts with references to each represented country before the game's final release. While some (like the newcomers and guests) had no unused designs during development, the veterans from previous entries did have tons of unused design concepts of their own. These unused design concept ideas can be unlocked to be viewed in the Gallery when completing Arcade Mode in Fighting Ground more than once with a character.

Final (Outfit 3)

Eight different outfit concepts were made for Ryu, but they didn't make the cut for him at all. In the final game, for Outfit 1 he chooses to go for an aged master approach, wearing a special kasaya (or buddhist robe) similar to his master Gouken, and has special sandals on his feet.

For his Outfit 3, the jacket was first seen in artwork of one of his World Tour memories (the one with him in a clothing store), and the design team "was thinking of a situation of Ryu wearing normal clothes and felt he might dress a little more like a regular person when he comes down from the mountain where he trains to head to town". From there, they "thought about what he does in town, and imagined him going to public baths, buying ingredients for his meals, and washing his gi before returning to the mountain". They came up "with the idea of Chun-Li scolding Ryu for roaming around town with his gi on, so she decides to buy him a jacket. He is also wearing a towel wrapped around his head that he wears after taking a bath, brand-new bandages, jeans that have been washed so many times that the color has faded and looks like white denim, and high-end sandals that were gifted from E. Honda".

Chun-Li#

Final (Outfit 4)

Chun-Li went through ten different outfit concepts, but these were all being scrapped. In the final game, for Outfit 1 she wears a white-based outfit that "inherits the traditions from the series, but is elegant and easy to move in".

The concept of her Outfit 3 is her casual wear. The design team "thought that even her casual clothes would maintain an ease of movement and elegance", so they "combined inner-wear that combines aspects of training attire with a Chinese-influenced jacket. The large slit shows her back when she moves, and the transparency provides a delicate touch when seen on the screen. Her sweatpants were designed with a basketball jersey in mind with side buttons that can be undone at the waist to make it easier for a character with thick thighs like Chun-Li to put them on". The team had also "never seen Chun-Li wear wide-legged pants before", so they decided to give that a shot. Her Outfit 4 is inspired by the summer vacation artwork made for Super Street Fighter II: Turbo.

Cammy#

Final (Outfit 4)

For Delta Red's top special agent, there were ten different outfit concepts for Cammy. They were all being scrapped, as she wears a new outfit in the final game for her Outfit 1.

Her Outfit 3 is based on the red coat she wore in Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, as the design team knew that the coat she wore in the film was so striking that they designed her "to wear a similar red coat that she might wear when going undercover". They designed it "in a more modern and functional style" that they thought would suit her, and also "gave her a pendant to symbolize the bond with her allies". Her Outfit 4 is inspired by the summer vacation artwork made for Super Street Fighter II: Turbo.

Ken#

Final (Outfit 1)

Final (Outfit 3)

Before the former national US martial arts champion and ex-VP of the Masters Foundation had to abandon his family and business to go into hiding and clear his name, Ken had to choose from one of ten different outfit choices. While all of these unused concepts never saw the light of day, he wears a new outfit in the final game instead for his Outfit 1.

His Outfit 3 is also completely red-hot indeed, but the team knew that Ken "has lost a lot in this game", so they "wanted to show him looking sharp and stylish like the heir that he is". While each component of his outfit is fairly simple, the team liked to think that "he's wearing extremely valuable material. Since he has his leather jacket zipped up, it might be a little difficult for him to move".

Post-Launch DLC Characters#

Rashid#

Unused Concepts

Final (Outfit 1)

Final (Outfit 3)

As the first DLC character in Year 1, Rashid also had ten different outfit choices for him. While all of them never got completed in time for the soaring eagle of the desert, he wears a new outfit instead for the final game as his Outfit 1. His Outfit 3 had him in a sporty design of green and black.

Akuma/Gouki#

Unused Concepts

Final (Outfit 1)

Final (Outfit 3)

Being the final DLC character in Year 1, Akuma originally was going to have one of nine different outfit choices. Some of these unused outfit concepts even have his classic red hair in them, a remnant from when he used to have that with white streaks (similar to Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike), while some had it changed to white like in his final design. The unused designs never got into the game, as he wears a new outfit instead for his Outfit 1. His Outfit 3 had him wearing a demon mask.
