Tenna#
|
|
To do: |
The first pieces of concept art made of Tenna's design. Toby notes that he was gonna look more like an ant, with four pairs of arms, but this idea didn't go through. He also would've slurped nectar through his nose. The bottom of the drawing features more finalized Tenna concepts, including detailing how his animations would work, which ended up being translated rather faithfully in the final game.

Concept art for battling Tenna. Besides Tenna's display turning static when attacking, these would all be incorporated into his fight rather faithfully.

Gigi DG's cleaned-up drawings of Toby's concept art.

Various renders of Tenna in their original resolution, made by Chelsea Saunders. Saunders states that Toby drew Tenna's mouth on the renders afterwards.

MS Paint sketches made by Toby of the various poses Tenna does throughout the game.

|
To do: |
A plethora of early, unpolished sprites for Tenna, which were made by limiting the color palette to a few shades and then shrinking the render down to pixel-size. Chelsea Saunders states that while she did tidy the sprites up a bit, a lot of the heavy lifting for them would later be done by Clairvoire. Additionally, there is good handful of sprites here that either differ from the final result, or simply just didn't make into the game at all.
Enemies#
Concept art of Shadowguy, referred to with his early name of "Shadow men". "Shadowman" is what Shadowguys are referred to as in the game's files (e.g. spr_shadowman, etc).

Notes |
|---|---|---|
The shadowguy's smile is less angular in the final sprite, and the hair is less varied. |
||
While no notes come out of the sprite itself, the notes are used in the actual attack. |
||
The mouth is wider in the finalized sprite. |
||
The mouth is wider, the blush is a straight line instead of multiple, and the Shadowguy is wearing socks. The concept art version could have been used when Kris gives the Shadowguy their autograph. |

Monster Movie#
A MSPaint sketch by Toby, on a sheet mostly full of Chapter 4 concept art. The concept involving Kris and Ralsei squished up against each other is for the "Susiezilla" minigame, where "Kris and Ralsei control Susie via rope like an unwanted puppet."

Cowboy Minigame#
Concept art by ggdg of Susie and Kris donning cowboy attire. The alt text describes the outfits as "cowboy characters that were going to show up for about five seconds". These designs were used in the minigame "Ralsei Rodeo" and a few unused sprites.

Locations#
Overworld#

Concept art by ggdg for two early versions of TV World. The first one is much more drastically different, featuring Kris standing near a podium with a sign reading "TV TIME!" (Tenna's catchphrase) above them, along with some funky looking TV stands. The sign to the right begins with a T- the beginning of Tenna's name. The second one is closer, even featuring Tenna's design and the more muted color palette of TV World, but still retains the simplicity of the previous chapters. As stated by Toby, this concept art heavily deviates from Chapter 3's art style, and fit better for Chapter 2.
Interestingly, two tilesets based off of these pieces of concept art can be found in Chapter 3's files.

Boards#

ggdg concept art of the Boards, back when it had a more Super Mario Bros. 3 overworld feel.
(Source: CHAPTER 3 AND 4 LOOK BACK!)
Concept art by ggdg of the unused City Board from Tenna's game show. This image would be remade by Everdraed in Photoshop for its in-game appearance, with some details excised.

Tenna's Feature Presentation#
Storyboard#
Toby's rough storyboard of Tenna's feature presentation for Chelsea Saunders, Tenna's modeller and animator, to animate the composition. Toby noted for Tenna to be "put in a car", however Chelsea didn't read the note and didn't knew what it meant.
Composition#
Chelsea's composition before final editing by Everdraed.
