Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (SNES)

A collection of minigames starring Thomas & friends.

To do:

Unused Graphics#

General#

An unpressed version of the checkmark graphic, suggesting that it was originally going to be a menu button at one point. Only the pressed sprite is used in the final game.

An X button, possibly meant to go with the aforementioned checkmark button.

An exit door button, which most likely served the same purpose as the final game's windmill button.

Setting the Switches/Fixing the Tracks#

Diagonal sprites meant for the 'Setting the Switches' and 'Fixing the Tracks' mini-games. These were likely meant to be used when Thomas was crossing a curve in the track, yet it was cut for some unknown reason despite being finished.

Let's race Bertie/Percy!#

A sprite of James' face, who doesn't appear in these mini-games. No graphics of his body are known to exist.

A Troublesome Truck, who also doesn't appear in-game. Unlike James however, graphics for its body are present in VRAM.

It is notable that James and the Troublesome Trucks do appear in the canceled NES version of the game, indicating they were meant to appear but cut at some point during development, being replaced by Percy in the final.

A standalone graphic of Thomas' number 1 which was meant to be overlaid on top of his sprite, similar to the engines' faces.

An unknown graphic, found within the face overlay and steam cloud graphics.

Obscured Graphics#

These sprites are used in 'Let's go with Thomas!' when the character button is pressed, but are normally obscured by the cursor.

Unused Text#

Stored at x1C80D (US)/x1C829 (EU) and x1C900 (US)/1C91C are the standard strings for the SNES mouse BIOS:

START OF MOUSE BIOS
NINTENDO SNES MOUSE BIOS Ver1.00
END OF MOUSE BIOS

However, the game isn't actually compatible with the mouse, thus rendering these strings unused. The presence of the strings likely indicates that the game was originally planned to be compatible with the mouse, which was scrapped at some point during development.
