The Wonderful End of the World

The Wonderful End of the World is about a girl who controls a puppet to absorb as much of humanity as possible before the world ends, as one does.

Unused Graphics#

Inside the game's files, there is a folder called "Bitmaps" where all of the game's textures are stored. Inside this folder are a number of screenshots from development versions of the game.

bitmap_title.jpg#

The title screen from the game's second alpha test.

bitmap_level_select.jpg#

The level select screen from one of the game's alpha tests.

bitmap_nmb_title.jpg#

A difficulty selection screen. There aren't any difficulty options in the final game.

bitmap_bypass_title.tga#

An early level select screen for a review version of the game back when it was titled "Klectit" and had support for the Novint Falcon controller.

bitmap_tutorial_02_novint.jpg#

Unused in the non-Novint Falcon versions of the game. "Klect" is likely a play on the game's earlier title "Klectit"

bitmap_loading_falcon.jpg#

Unused in the non-Novint Falcon versions of the game.

bitmap_no_falcon.jpg#

Unused in the non-Novint Falcon versions of the game.

Cut Tutorial#

The names of these files imply that they were used in a cut version of the tutorial featuring the girl character and a chick. Some of the files which prominently feature the girl character have "terra" in the filename, which may be the character's name. It seems that one of these frames was re-used for the loading screen with the basketball and white cake replaced with a potato and black forest cake respectively, likely to coincide with Valve's Potato Sack ARG.

Hidden Levels#

While it's possible to be ranked on the first two, the score isn't saved anywhere and there's no leaderboard. The "Portal" and "Cubes" levels allow the player to jump, unlike every other level in the game.

Portal#

Hold P during the loading screen of Sugar Candy to access this Portal-themed level. Covers of "Still Alive" and "Want You Gone" serve as music, Companion Cubes are all over, and a line from GLaDOS plays if the puppet falls into the void. A delicious cake is waiting at the end. This level was added as part of Valve's Potato Sack ARG

Cubes#

Hold U during the loading screen of Arcadia to access a level with lots of disco-colored cubes in it. The music is a seemingly original song about a hole in the ground.

Test Level#

Hold Shift+1 during the loading screen of Megalopolis to access a level with a number of objects placed around it. Only 36 objects can be collected, and the level cannot be completed in any mode. It's possible the level was used to test various things.
