Unused Dialogue

This article has a talk page!
view on tcrf.net

This is a sub-page of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

Many of these unused lines of dialogue also have corresponding transcripts in Dialogs.locres.

Note: Some lines simply read "delete." This is how lines intended to be deleted were marked for deletion. However, as you'll see, this deletion was often not carried out.

Time is not spent…

Is placed after "At nothing you can marvel without me". This implies that the used line was originally just "roses has no scent", but was merged with this one.

Gandalf

Your little mockingbirds would enjoy that, I wager.

I bet your little mocking birds would enjoy that.

While this particular line is used, preceding "an old man with a stick(...)" it is difficult to discern in-game over Gollum's voice, and it is not subtitled.
An unused subtitle is present in Dialogs.locres, but it doesn't quite match the actual line.

Mordor. Of all places. What did you hope to find there?

This exchange would have played right after Gollum's "must go back hungry again" line.

Gollum

D1001_GS_Muttering_050_G

No hope. No. Not for us. The Elf King said so.

No Foothold#

Would have played as you shuffled along the first ledge over a bottomless pit in the level, right before the Gandalf's "that is where you were hiding?" exchange.

Orc Laughter#

Developer documentation in data.xml gives us the context behind these lines:

On the other side of the crevice the lights of small camp fires shine through the mist. From time to time we can hear orcs shouting and laughing. Their far away voices sound hollow and get carried away by the howling wind.

Placeholder dialogue is present, but it seems to be the placeholder dialogue for the first line in the conversation with Ufthak and Shagrat.

Ufthak#

Additional dialogue that would have come after Shagrat says "What's the plan, Ufthak? Skip the night shift?"

Wraith!

There is no Wraith visible aboard the Fellbeast in the cutscene.
It's likely there was, but was removed to increase the impact of the Wraiths' introduction at the end of the level.

This dialogue would have been a prelude to the chase between Gollum and the orcs.

Torture Marks#

Unused response to Gandalf asking, "why are there torture marks on your hands?" This is supposed to be used, but does not play, due to a bug. Strangely, the line does play as intended if you trigger the conversation by going out-of-bounds to the same area.

The delivery of this line sounds different to that of any other of the Frail Man's dialogue, sounding noticeably more hoarse.
This may have been why it was cut.
