Regional Differences#

Title Screen#

US

Europe

Japan

The US version was released as "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV"; the European version changed "Ninja" to "Hero" (and retained the Roman numeral "IV", even though the third game had not been released at that point). The Japanese version does not have the numeral "IV" and "TURTLES IN TIME" text is written out with more cartoony lettering, and flickery after-images behind the text as it flies onto the screen was added. Due to this, the position of the menu options differs between versions.

Scene Select#

US

Japan

In the US version, the scene select can only be activated by entering the Game Genie code 26C4-640F and selecting a mode.

The Japanese version made the scene select more presentable (but removed the name of the selected scene), and tied it to a button code: enter Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, L, R on the second controller at the title screen, and then start the game. If the demo starts by this point, the code must be entered again.

Boss Text#

In the Japanese version, the majority of the bosses will say short phrases after you beat them. Only Super Krang has dialogue in the English versions.
