Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution was originally the second game in the Shantae series before getting canceled due to lack of publishers, until becoming another of those games that was picked up and resurrected by Limited Run Games.
The game seems to have gone through development hell as a result of its 22 year nap, and after being delayed 6 months past the initial release date, still only ended up being half of the game Matt and Erin Bozon originally wanted to make.
Thankfully, messy development means bigger TCRF articles.
Sub-Pages#
Debug Menu#
Enable CodeBreaker code 74000130 00FF 33001F10 0062 then press L+R to access a debug menu, similar to those found in other GBA games by WayForward, where every level and screen in the game can be accessed.
Unused Graphics#
Bone#
A simple bone, similar to those found in a few other Wayforward games, for some reason.
Magic Indicator#
As seen in the demo, a little "+MP" would show up when you collected magic jars.
Quiver Crystals#
Ultimately replaced by Secret Squids. These are bundled with the other key item sprites.
Shantae#
Walking#
As seen in the demo, Shantae was originally meant to have 2 movement speeds. These animations are now unreferenced, but still reside in the files. These are also in the Beach Costume mode sprite set, unedited.
Monkey Swimming#
The monkey was once intended to swim, though this functionality isn't observed in either version of the game.
Sliding#
Most of the forms have sprites for sliding, just like the first game. However since there are no slippery slopes in this game they go unused, save for Shantae's human form which is used during the intro boss.
Crab#
The crab enemy has a full set of rotating death sprites, but only the first frame is used.
