Rezon is an arcade shooter in the same vein as R-Type.
Audit/Input Screen#
Hold P2 Start + P2 Left + P2 Down + P1 Button 1 while the machine starts. You'll need to hold it through the RAM test. When it appears, you can let go of all buttons except P1 Button 1; letting it go will exit the menu.
ASCII Art#
Present at 0xD6B0 in the game data is some ASCII art that spells out REZON:
ZZZZZZZZZ
RRRRRRR EEEEEEE Z OOOOO N N
R R E Z O O NN N
R R E Z O O N N N
RRRRRRR EEEEEE Z O O N N N
R R E Z O O N N N
R R E Z O O N NN
R RR EEEEEEE Z OOOOO N N
ZZZZZZZZZ
It uses 0's for newlines rather than ASCII standard newlines. It's unknown whether this was used in the game (as a temporary title screen, perhaps) or if it is an Easter egg in the code.

Revisional Differences#

|
This needs some investigation. |
There currently exist two known ROMs available in MAME: the Rezon set and the Rezon (earlier) set. The only real noticeable difference is that the Rezon set displays the year 1992 on the title screen, while the Rezon (earlier) one has the year 1991. Both sets also allow you to change the licensee between Allumer and Taito, with Taito's logo appearing if the latter is selected. The Arcade Archives release uses the Rezon (earlier) set and there is no way to enable the Taito logo.
