Pirate Ship Higemaru is a maze/puzzle game with similar gameplay to Sega's Pengo, but the enemies are pirates rather than penguins.

Not saying that there couldn't be penguin pirates, mind you; there just aren't any in this particular game.

Years later it got a sequel on home systems known as Higemaru Makaijima: Nanatsu no Shima Daibouken.

Unused Graphics#

Lowercase Letters#

THESE ARE ALL UNUSED oh sorry didn't mean to yell
Curiously, there's a full set of lowercase characters in the game's font that are never used. All part of Tokuro Fujiwara's tradition of including lowercase characters and not using them.

Most arcade games at this time never bothered with lowercase letters, so it's odd that they're taking up graphics ROM space, especially when they're not used.

Sun#

Early

Final

An earlier sun graphic is present which has a reflective shine that was removed from the final graphic. Just like what happened to the real sun, remember?
