Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams takes the series to new, fully 3D action-RPG heights, jettisoning the use of real living (and dead) actors in the process.
Regional Differences#
- The Japanese version has three difficulty settings: Beginner, Easy and Normal. These were removed in the international versions, which are based on the Normal mode, but with increased overall difficulty.
- The European version lacks Japanese voice and text options but has text options for English, French, Italian, German and Spanish in its place. Both the Japanese and North American versions have English and Japanese settings for voice and text.
- The European version has a menu at startup to choose the text language and 50 or 60 hz display modes.

The game's opening movie exhibits some rather interesting differences.
- The Japanese version's opening movie consists of various scenes from the game set to a theme song, "Startin'" by J-Pop artist Ayumi Hamasaki.
- Interestingly, when the Sound Language setting in the Options menu is set to English, the same opening movie will play, but with English voices instead.
- The North American and European versions play the first part of the intro movie that appears after starting a new game.
- Curiously, the Japanese opening can still be played in the North American version if the Sound Language setting in the Options menu is set to Japanese. The English voiced version of the Japanese opening is unused.
Revisional Differences#
The "PlayStation 2 The Best" reissue removes the Oni Special option in the Special menu (used for entering codes from the official website) and has the Onimusha Arena minigame unlocked from the start. This version is used for the PS Classics re-release for PS4 and PS5 when the system language is set to Japanese.
