Unused Level Data

This is a sub-page of Mega Man II.

Unused Level Tiles#

Air Man#

There are some tiles of clouds that are unused in the stage.

Crash Man#

Two unused tiles. One was probably meant to be used for clouds like in the NES version of the stage; the final version uses mountains instead. The other appears to be a connector for two black orb tiles.

Metal Man#

Apparently Metal Man's factory's power was shut off in the Game Boy release

The gears in Metal Man's stage are supposed to be animated, like in the NES version. The two gear frames are loaded into memory, but the developers never got the actual animation part of this done.

A tile at the bottom of the mats that is unused.

Wood Man#

Some tiles of tree leaves from the background that are unused in the stage.

Needle Man#

He's such a kidder

There are a few spikes tiles and some that are a vertical piece that are used in the background of the NES version!

Magnet Man#

The first tile is based on the tiles used in the NES version in the inner sections of Magnet Man's stage. They have been replaced by striped tiles, which are more pleasing to the eye. The second tile should have been placed above the magnets (similar tiles appear in the NES version, and there's even space for them in the Game Boy version), but they aren't there.

Hard Man#

Just an unused cloud tile.

Top Man#

Know why they call him Top Man? 'Cause his head's shaped like a top. Yep

The NES Top Man stage had spikes, so it would make sense for them to appear in the Game Boy version, but nope.

This tile is from the background and would possibly be used for a darker section of the stage.

An unused background tile from Tama's room.

Unused Blocks#

Metal Man#

ID $09 there is a background block in the Metal Man's room, but with a shaded tile.

ID $3F there is part of a block on a black background.

Wood Man#

ID $15 there is a block of water that is not being used. It is much larger compared to the one that is being used, which is much smaller.

MMII_-_Unused_Block_3C_(Wood_Man).png MMII_-_Unused_Block_3D_(Wood_Man).png

ID $3C, $3D there are some strange platforms with graphics somewhat similar to the ground seen in the level, but the bottom part uses black tiles, suggesting that perhaps they were intended for an underwater area.

MMII_-_Unused_Block_3E_(Wood_Man).png MMII_-_Unused_Block_3F_(Wood_Man).png

ID $3E, $3F the same platforms as before, but with the bottom part white instead of black.

Wily Castle#

ID $01 it's an early version of the thing where you have the little ball that flashes in the teleporters.

ID $09 there's an entire block made of metal bars that are used in teleporters, or where Dr. Wily's icon is located.

ID $0A these are the platforms located near the teleporters, but stacked one on top of the other.

ID $3F these are the platforms located near the teleporters, but with a darker background underneath, creating a shadow effect.

Needle Man#

MMII_-_Unused_Block_34_(Needle_Man).png MMII_-_Unused_Block_35_(Needle_Man).png

ID $34, $35 these are blocks that would form part of the floor, and are present in the NES version.

MMII_-_Unused_Block_3D_(Needle_Man).png MMII_-_Unused_Block_3E_(Needle_Man).png MMII_-_Unused_Block_3F_(Needle_Man).png

ID $3D, $3E, $3F they are metal platforms with a visible background.

Magnet Man#

MMII_-_Unused_Block_04_(Magnet_Man).png MMII_-_Unused_Block_05_(Magnet_Man).png MMII_-_Unused_Block_06_(Magnet_Man).png MMII_-_Unused_Block_08_(Magnet_Man).png

ID $04, $05, $06, $08 there is a third layer of clouds in the background that is not used here, but it is present in the NES version.

ID $13 There is a background block that extends to a hole, but with shading on the walls.

ID $23 There is a small metal platform, with a background tube seen in the NES version.

Hard Man#

Rockin'

ID $25 there a rocky platform, clearly modeled after the NES version. The final game's Hard Man level is decidedly industrial in theme, though it may have changed during development.

Top Man#

ID $17 there is a block that would be used in the background as a transition to a darker room, like Tama's room in the NES version.

ID $3B there is a block that would probably be used in the walls where the small glass platforms are located in the room containing the Energy Tank.

Time Warp#

MMII_-_Unused_Block_23_(Wily_Station).png MMII_-_Unused_Block_2B_(Wily_Station).png

ID $23, $2B there a short and long pipes. Their actual function is unknown. One part of them is actually used in-game, but it's so ill-fitting that it might be a programming error.
