eShop Demo

This is a sub-page of Mario vs. Donkey Kong (Nintendo Switch).

A free downloadable demo for Mario vs. Donkey Kong was released on the Nintendo eShop on January 31, 2024. It contains various differences between it and the full game.

General Differences#

  • Levels 1-1, 1-3, 1-5, and 1-mm are the only playable levels in the demo, making levels 1-2, 1-4, 1-6, and 1-DK inaccessible.
  • The demo has a promotional screen and videos for the final game that is absent (as well as their files removed) from the final game.

Level Icons#

The level icons in the demo were changed in the final game. Most of which have background blur, while a few of them have more noticeable changes.

Demo

Final

The red switch is zoomed in more in the final game's icon. There is also shadow on the ground in the demo's icon that is absent from the final game's icon.

Demo

Final

The flame on top of the oil drum is different and the position of the oil drum is also slightly different. Like the first level's icon, there is a shadow on the ground in the demo's icon that is absent in the final game's icon.

Demo

Final

There isn't much of a difference between the two icons other than the fact that the switch blocks and trash cans are slightly more zoomed in in the final game's icon.

Demo

Final

Again, there isn't too much of a difference between the two icons. The main difference being the ground and Bucket Man being shifted down in the final game's icon.

Demo

Final

Similarly to the last two, Shy Guy and the ground were shifted down. However, they were both also slightly shifted to the right.

Demo

Final

Aside from the blurred background, the differences between the two are extremely subtle; Brickman is slightly more zoomed in in the final game's icon.

Demo

Final

The Mini Marios are more zoomed in in the demo's icon than they are in the final game's icon. Additionally, the background in the demo's icon is different than the one in the final game's icon.

Demo

Final

The most noticeably different icon of the bunch. In the demo's icon, Donkey Kong is looking down to the left, while in the final game's icon, he is staring straight at the player menacingly. Donkey Kong is also zoomed out a bit in the final game's icon. Additionally, like the icons for level 1-mm, the backgrounds are different.

Regional Differences#

HOME Menu Icon#

International

Japanese

Simplified Chinese

Traditional Chinese

Korean

Like the full game's HOME Menu icons, and as with most other Switch games, the logo was changed to reflect the region. Oddly enough, the demo contains duplicate icons for French and Canadian French languages, which suggests that there was possibly going to be French translations of the HOME Menu icon as well.
