This is a sub-page of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The Booster Course Pass has quite a bit of content.

Skybox Textures#
Multiple courses in the Booster Course Pass DLC have unused skybox textures. Most of them are from the Mario Kart Tour versions of each course, but are generally less compressed rather than being direct ports.

Unused Music#
Unused Music Intros#
|
|
To do:
|
A number of courses from the Booster Course Pass feature unique music intros for each variation of their theme which can never be heard during regular gameplay. They can be listened to in full via the Music Player by using the shoulder buttons to select the variant.
Tour Singapore Speedway#
An unused intro for the Chinatown version of Singapore Speedway.
Wii Koopa Cape#
Like in Mario Kart Tour, the underwater portion of Koopa Cape has a unique intro; new to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an intro for the river portion of the course.
Wii Moonview Highway#
An unused intro for the city version of Moonview Highway's theme.
Unused Music Prefetches#
Several prefetch tracks for then-upcoming DLC courses were found in the 2.1.0 update, which vary in terms of how different they sound compared to their tracks from both their original games and the final DLC. These tracks were likely used as placeholders before the final versions were complete.
On the whole, the placeholder prefetches use synthesized instruments, rather the live performances used on the final tracks, which likely indicates that these were the original demos used by the composers.

Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Tour London Loop |
Cnsw_31 |
|
|
Synthesized drums and bass; the guitar slide is the same and may be synthesized. The little that can be heard of the guitar in the final lap version appears to be synthesized as well. |
GBA Boo Lake |
Cnsw_33 |
|
|
Synthesized strings (the live strings have more vibrato and a slightly longer attack). The celesta synth is the same, though the final version's mixing is slightly different. |
3DS Rock Rock Mountain |
Cnsw_34 |
|
|
Entirely synthesized. The drums are significantly louder. |
Wii Maple Treeway |
Cnsw_62 |
|
|
Synthesized bass and flute. The guitar sounds very close to the final version and may be the same (unclear if it is live or not). |
Tour Berlin Byways |
Cnsw_35 |
|
|
Essentially identical other than mixing. The snare is slightly different in the final. |
DS Peach Gardens |
Cnsw_32 |
|
|
Entirely synthesized. The early version does not have stereo separation (all instruments are panned in the middle). |
Merry Mountain |
Cnsw_37 |
|
|
A synthesized orchestra akin to the Tour version is used here instead of the live instruments of the final. |
3DS Rainbow Road (Normal) |
Cnsw_38 |
|
|
Essentially identical other than mixing. The snare is slightly different in the final version. The final lap versions are taken directly from the original; this includes a final lap variation of the moon theme, which does not otherwise exist in the game (as the moon theme is only heard on lap 2). |
3DS Rainbow Road (Moon) |

Tour Los Angeles Laps |
Cnsw_48 |
|

Entirely synthesized. The early version has a bass slide, matching the Tour version, that is absent in the final track. The early version also does not have stereo separation (all instruments are panned in the middle). |
GBA Sunset Wilds |
Cnsw_53 |
|
|
Entirely synthesized (the live strings have a shorter attack). |
Tour Vancouver Velocity |
Cnsw_61 |
|
|
The early version uses a sawtooth synth rather than a house piano. |
Leaked DLC Courses#
A leak was found after the release of Wave 1 of the Booster Course Pass, which contains most of the tracks labeled with appropriate "retro" consoles, and another leak after the release of Wave 2, which contains prefetch files for soundtracks of courses not present in the game. This is most likely a placeholder order for the courses in the pass.

Oddities#
DS Shroom Ridge Hidden Item Box#
All tracks in Mario Kart 8 must have at least one stationary item box, or the game will crash. To comply with this, DS Shroom Ridge has one hidden under the ground, ahead of the glider ramp, under the grass section. The item box has the normal scale.

Waluigi Pinball#
For some reason, the countdown sound effects uses its own files rather than using the base one. There's no differences from the base one. It's possible DS Waluigi Pinball was planned to have its own unique countdown sound effects.
Sky-High Sundae Double Skybox#
In the course_muunt.byaml file for Sky-High Sundae. The skybox for Sweet Sweet Canyon is present. This may suggest that this skybox was in consideration of being used for this track. However, the skybox is not visible during regular gameplay, only being able to be seen if you remove the normal skybox from the course_muunt.byaml file.

Unused Wii Coconut Mall Car Routes & Settings#
Wii Coconut Mall cars have a set route to follow, set speed and set settings which would be related to the car behavior when following the routes. The cars ignore the route and do not attach to it at all, since they don't move and their rotation is not facing the route. By looking at the values of the settings it shows that one of them could be the amount of time it stays stopped until following the route again.
By setting an object that follow routes, N64 Toad's Turnpike cars being an example, to follow the route the Wii Coconut Mall cars are linked to, and set the same speed, it shows that they follow the routes and they look like something you'd see in Mario Kart Wii, showing the routes were indeed intended to be for the cars. Because of the N64 Toad's Turnpike cars being coded differently, they don't behave as intended on the routes, teleporting back to the start point of the route. This tweet shows the video in higher framerate and with more explanation.
While the 2.1.0 update changed the cars to no longer be static, they don't use these routes and move significantly faster.

Unused Models#
StartGateMobla1#
MapObj/StartGateMobla1 contains an unused model for a Start Gate from Tour Los Angeles Laps. Its original use was unknown, but given how it looks very similar to a Start Gate model in Mario Kart Tour and uses an identical texture, it was most likely meant to be a placeholder until the final Start Gate was built into the track model.
Early Course Order#
An interesting detail about the Filenames of the courses (including the datamined music in the 2.1.0 update) is that they list the courses differently compared to how they appear in-game; for example, Tour Berlin Byways is Cnsw_35 or the fifth course in Wave 3. While most courses future courses have their correct placement, many were shifted or moved to entirely different waves.
Wii Maple Treeway (Cnsw_62) was originally planned for Wave 6 but moved to Wave 3 instead, replacing GCN Waluigi Stadium (Cnsw_36) which was moved to Wave 4, replacing GCN Daisy Cruiser (Cnsw_46) which was moved to Wave 5, replacing GCN DK Mountain (Cnsw_56) Which was moved to Wave 6. Tour Los Angeles Laps (Cnsw_48) was planned for Wave 4 but was replaced by Tour Bangkok Rush (Cnsw_55) and moved to Wave 5. SNES Bowser Castle 3 (Cnsw_57) was originally planned for Wave 5 but it got replaced with Wii Moonview Highway (Cnsw_63) which got moved to Wave 6. Tour Athens Dash (Cnsw_65) and Tour Vancouver Velocity (Cnsw_61) were both planned for Wave 6, but got moved to Wave 5, replacing both Tour Madrid Drive and Tour Rome Avanti (Cnsw_51 and Cnsw_54 respectfully) which were moved to Wave 6.
Something to note is that Cnsw_63 (Wii Moonview Highway) and Cnsw_67 (Rosalina's Ice World) didn't originally have a Course Prefix in earlier leaks implying that it was either a scrapped non-city course or for Piranha Plant Pipeline from Mario Kart Tour or simply a placeholder. Another thing to note is that Cnsw_66 (Wii Daisy Circuit) originally had a GCN Prefix in earlier leaks implying it was a scrapped course from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! or was a placeholder.
