Lufia: The Ruins of Lore is a follow-up on the events after Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. The game takes place 25 years later, in the town of Parcelyte.

Debug Menus#

This game, like Lufia II, has a handful of debug functions, all of which are in Japanese, with the exception of most character and item names. There are two main menus: a map, character, and inventory editor menu, and a menu that might have been used by the developers for bugtesting.

Please elaborate.
Having more detail is always a good thing.
Specifically: Actually describe what these functions do.

First Menu#

The first menu is the one with the editors. It is activated with CodeBreaker codes 7300597E FF00 + 83001A2C 0020 (US) or 730059AE FF00 + 83001A5C 0020 (Japan).

Second Menu#

The other menu is believed to be a set of tools used by the developers for bugtesting. Accessible with the CodeBreaker codes 74000130 01FF + 83005978 FDE5 + 74000130 01FF + 8300597A 0805, it includes a battle selector (choose a background and an enemy set, then press A to start a battle), a sprite viewer and sound test, three area-changing tools (one with all areas and no events completed, one with all areas and all events completed, and one with currently unlocked areas and currently completed events), a (buggy) cinematic viewer, another teleporter, and debug shops.

This one also won't easily let you exit it without bugging up the game. If you use the third area changer, however, you can leave the menu without bugs.

Unused Sprites#

There are various unused sprites, most notably Dekar's swimming and sleeping sprites. Since the player cannot switch to Dekar, and there are no cutscenes where Dekar is asleep, none of these are used.

Unused Items#

Two items called "Aspirin" and "Goddess Statue" (items 359 and 360 in the Inventory Editor, respectively) are in the game's memory. "Goddess Statue" is a battle-only item that restores 50 HP of one party member, while Aspirin cannot be used at all. Goddess Statues (or Goddess Tears, depending on the game) appeared in previous Lufia games, and were likely meant to make a proper appearance in this game. What Aspirin was intended to be used for is unknown.
