Dark Carnival#

These lines are for the finale, about fending off a Tank in order for the rescue helicopter to land.

Audio

Transcript

He can't land until we kill the Tank!

If we kill this Tank, we're outta here!

These lines show that the fourth act of Dark Carnival once relied on using a monorail in order to jump a fence into the stadium, instead of opening the gates and getting bumrushed by a mob of the undead.

Audio

Transcript

We can jump to the monorail tracks.

Get on the monorail tracks!

Let's use the monorail to get over that fence.

Jump down on this side!

There are also lines demonstrating that at one point, the way to get inside the stadium was by climbing a scaffold to leap through a window and land on top of (or in?) portable toilets...

Audio

Transcript

Up the scaffolding!

We can climb this scaffolding.

Into the window.

Jump into the john!

...and then, there was a Death Toll style event with a roadie in a control room keeping the players out and wanting an item in return, ala Dead Center, leading to his operating half of the pyrotechnics...

Somebody's in the control room.

What?

Hey, let us in!

Open up!

Don't make us shoot our way into the control room!

C'mon, open the freakin' door!

Open the door now! You can drive, we'll all ride shotgun!

Come on, man, help us!

Are you gonna help us or not?

What are you, an unfriendly hippie? I thought y'all had to be friendly!

Is there any way I can talk you into helpin' us here?

Okay, look. Maybe we can help you, right? Ellis here is a mechanic.

No one else here is alive, okay? There's gotta be kind of deal we can work out.

Just name it. Anything.

I am going to regret saying this, but sure, what do you need?

Okay... okay, that's a start. What do you need?

OK, we'll do it. Sure.

Why in the hell not? Yes, we'll do it!

Wow. That's really cool. I'm sure Dusty will be honored.

I bet he's got a working shower in there, and he's not even using it.

Always a stinking hippie! I swear to God, it always comes back to making a stinking hippie happy.

I don't think we have a choice.

...and then an entire unused ending where you instead steal the Midnight Riders tour bus from the garage to escape, almost like a mix of Crash Course and Dead Center!

Audio

Transcript

There's the bus!

There's the tour bus! Get into the garage!

Get to the garage!

He kept his word, let's go!

Into the garage!

The garage is open!

Let's go!

Just go, just go! He isn't coming with us!

Goodbye, my hippie friend!

Goodbye, mister hippie!

Swamp Fever#

Unused lines for Nick when the wooden walkways would sometimes collapse when walked on.

We need to try the other walkway.

Dark Carnival#

Unused lines for needing to kill a Tank or two before the chopper can land during the finale.

Audio

Kill the Tank so he can land!

We gotta kill the Tank before he lands!

You heard the man, kill the Tanks!

These lines are for the previously-mentioned monorail that was once part of the fourth chapter.

Audio

We need to get on the monorail.

On to the monorail.

Everybody go, go, go! On to the monorail!

Ellis#

Taking a Bread Slicer#

On the PC version of the game, this line was risen from the dead in The Last Stand update and is used when picking up a knife melee weapon. However, because the Xbox 360 version never received this update, and knives only existed in the censored German versions of the game (added by Valve to compensate for the removed gore), any non-German dubs of this line are still unused in the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Transcript

Grabbin' a bread slicer!

Bile Jar Friendly Fire#

These lines were originally for if another Survivor were to hit you with a Bile Jar, which would work identically to being puked on by a Boomer. This feature was removed as it had far too much griefing potential and made the Bile Jar far less practical than the other grenades. Only Ellis and Rochelle have these lines, and considering how awkward some of the wording them is, it was likely cut very quickly.

Audio

Transcript

Shit, don't throw it at me!

What the hell, man?! I'mma get killed here!

Don't throw that shit on me!

Don't throw that shit on me! That caused a horde!

Don't bomb ME with the bile!

Charger Running with Player#

Some unused voice lines for when the Charger grabs Ellis during his charge attack. Just like the unused bile jar lines, these lines only exist for Ellis and Rochelle and are quite awkwardly written.

Audio

Transcript

PUT ME DOWN!

WHERE'S THIS THING TAKING ME?

IT'S GOT ME!

He is breaking my butt!

He's got me!

Where is he taking me?!!

Rochelle#

Bile Jar Friendly Far#

Like Ellis, Rochelle has unused lines for another Survivor hitting her with a bile jar.

Audio

Transcript

You got... Boomer puke on me!

What are you doing?! Now the Infected are gonna swarm me!

I can't believe you just did that!

Charger Running with Player#

Just like the bile jar lines, these lines only exist for Ellis and Rochelle.

My job's done. Have at me, you bastards!

My job's done... let's see what you've got, ya big dumb sons of bitches!

My friends are safe! There's nothing you bastards can do to me now.

You monkeys ain't gonna spoil this.

You should've brought more Tanks with ya.

You're too late. they're safe!

You sons of bitches took everything... but you ain't taking them.

You're too late! *laughing*

*chuckle* I'm ready!

I'll see peace back on Earth- *long, hacking cough* if I gotta murder every one of you bastards with my- *cough* with my bare goddamn hands! *maniacal laughter*

Ahh, horseshit.

Ya want me? Come and get it! I'm just scars and tar, anyway, but you didn't get them, did ya? You sons of bitches.

*chuckling* I guess you can't unmake how things end up... none of it. This is all just how it is. But you never got them, did you? They're safe. So that's just fine.

I gotta admit... this wasn't how I pictured it... *exhale* Good enough.

I gotta admit, this wasn't how I pictured it... good enough.

I had a good run. Knowing they're safe... I wouldn't've changed a thing.

I had a good run... I wouldn't have changed a thing.

That felt like no time at all.

'That all you brought?

If I had known how many of you sons of bitches there were when we started out... *laughs* I guess I would've saved the shoe leather and fought ya there!

Unused Non-Player Character Voices#

Chopper Pilot (The Parish)#

An entire folder, "05_military", contains shorter placeholder versions of the lines used by the radio operators at the bridge during the last act of The Parish, most likely voiced by two Valve employees.

Pilot (Dead Air)#

An odd, unfiltered clip of the pilot from Dead Air, presumably meant to be played when the survivors board the plane in the finale.

Redundant No Mercy Pilot Sounds#

Although nothing in the base game uses them, the sounds folder contains the entire "chopper_pilot" folder for the first game, unused sounds and all. Note that these are not the same as those used in both Cold Stream and the ported No Mercy, as those both load from the "left4dead2_dlc3" folder and include a far less amount of files, with only 23 added by the DLC compared to the 46 from the leftover file.

Unused Sounds#

Melee Breaking#

The Axe and Frying Pan have sounds for when they break. There's just one problem with that... they can't break! Valve may have planned for melee weapons to have limited durability.

Axe

Frying Pan

Car Alarms#

car_alarm2 is a car's horn being honked, and car_alarm3 seems to be an alternate version of the car alarm sound itself.

Half-Life 2 Leftovers#

A burning Headcrab loop remains unused.

headcrab_burning_loop2#

suitchargeok1#

There's also a HEV Suit Charger sound, left over from Half-Life 2.

Airboat#

To do:
Add the sound here.

There is an unused running loop for Half-Life 2's Airboat in left4dead2/sounds/vehicles folder.

Alarms#

Two alarms from Half-Life 2. The first is a generic klaxon, and the second is a train crossing bell.
