Kuri Kinton

Kuri Kinton is essentialy Kung-Fu Master with fancier graphics, new techniques and instead of going upwards, you're going downwards.

To do:
There's also a localization prototype.

Stage Select#

Kuri_kinton_debug.png
This game uses the Taito Code:

  1. Press and hold the Service Credit button as soon as you power the board on.
  2. When the SERVICE SW ERROR screen appears, immediately release the Service Credit button (you have 5 seconds to release it or the Easter egg won't work).
  3. Then press Start (x3) followed by the Service Credit button once followed by Start for a final time. A stage select menu should then appear.

Version Differences#

Taito published the game in all regions. Although the company initially distributed the game in the US as well, it later struck a deal with World Games to take over publishing duties there.

The Japanese version displays a standard export copyright notice on boot. The other versions don't have an equivalent notice, and instead go straight to the intro sequence, followed by the title screen.

The World Games version changes Taito's copyright string with their own. Hey, at least they didn't removed Taito's logo this time.

Boss Text#

KuriKintonPreBossBattleTextJP.png KuriKintonPostBossBattleTextJP.png
In the Japanese version, each boss has their own unique line of dialogue before the battle begins and when they die (except for the third boss). In the other versions, the bosses simply appear and the battle starts instantly. When they die, they don't say anything.

Oddities#

Although it's possible to enable the boss text through dipswitches in the international versions, the text itself isn't translated. This suggests it may be a leftover from the Japanese version, not intended for use in the international versions, as seen in Taito Legends 2, which uses the World version. Strangely, the boss text dipswitch is enabled by default in all versions of the game in MAME.

Another possible theory is that the dipswitch is actually a language selection, similar to Operation Wolf. When enabled, the game is set to Japanese, and when disabled, the game is set to English.
