Despite what the name may lead you to think, Jelly Boy 2 is not a sequel to Jelly Boy. Instead, it's a sequel to Smart Ball, which was known as Jerry Boy in Japan. This confusing naming scheme can be partially explained by the fact that Jelly Boy was never released in Japan, while Jerry Boy was.

The game began development as "Magical Land", which was also the name of the amusement park (itself renamed "Jelly Land" later on). Planned for release by Sony around September 1994 in Japan, it received extensive coverage in Western magazines, who got review copies of the game. The last-minute cancellation could be explained with Sony moving on from providing third-party support for the Super Famicom and SNES.

A near-final build was leaked in the late 1990s. It's mostly feature complete, only missing some polish like enabling the code for the better swimming mechanics for one of the characters beyond just the special animation, and fixing a decompression bug that corrupts playback of the ending theme in the final looping segment.

Unused Graphics#

Loaded with the graphics for Wonder Space 3. The bunny lady is used in the game, as an easily missable Easter egg in a walled-off central section of the level that can only be seen with precise camera positioning. Clipping through the wall will reveal she's part of the background decorations and cannot be interacted with. The "Exit" and "No Smoking" signs, on the other hand, aren't used at all. There's also some developer graffiti denoting the graphical tileset page number, and a diagonal pattern for blank tiles that accidentally was partially kept in one of the stage decoration graphics.
