Homeland is one of only five online-enabled games for the GameCube, and the only one of the five to use the GameCube SDK's network configuration menu (as opposed to a game-specific menu) to set up an online connection. Once online, players can host their own game servers for 35 other players, where the host plays the role of God and spawns items and monsters, while the guest players would cooperate to complete quests.

The disc image includes some leftovers from CVS version control. The contents of the Root file suggests that the internal project name of the game is "candy".
