Regional Differences#

The Korean version of the game is built using newer SDK libraries, and uses graphics for the Xbox Controller S instead of the Duke.

Unused Weapons#

Gravity Rifle#

Gravity Rifle

An unused weapon included in the game's files. It does not have a first person model, projectile, or string. It will create a bright flash when shot at a nearby solid object, similar to the effect of a flamethrower. The model is rigged in such a way that the front part can "bloom" open like a flower and also rotate, which may be indicative of how the weapon was intended to animate.

Flamethrower (Xbox)#

Watch on YouTubeAlthough a usable weapon in the Windows release, the flamethrower never made it into the players' hands on the Xbox. It turns out that the files were actually on the Xbox version's disc, and were able to be modded into the game.

Unused Powerups#

There are 2 powerups that go unused which can be accessed with "cheat_all_powerups" on the Windows version (add -devmode to the shortcut). Both powerups display "Picked up a flamethrower" when you apply them.

Slow Motion#

The slowmo powerup makes a strange noise when you pick it up. While your movement speed on foot is unchanged, in a vehicle everything is much slower than normal. The speed of which items fall is also significantly decreased. Watch on YouTube

Full-Spectrum Vision#

While the name sounds cool, it actually makes no sound upon pickup and doesn't appear to do anything at all.

Unused Enemies#

Huragok/Engineer#

Sorry guys, you gotta be on the sidelines til' Halo 3 ODST

The Engineer is an enemy that goes unused in the game because Bungie didn't have the technology or time to make them feel right. Due to its late cancellation from the game, its model and textures are still intact on the game's disc and have frequently been re-implemented by modders; albeit without AI or animation. They would not make an official in-game appearance until Halo 3: ODST, despite frequently featuring in the Halo novels, as well as managing to make an appearance in the official Prima Guide for Halo: Combat Evolved. Interestingly placed atop the Flood section

Flamethrower Flood#

Present in the Gearbox PC release, at least, the level 343 Guilty Spark contains data for an unused Flood combat form variant that wields the flamethrower.

Unused Animations#

To do:

  • "Some", are there more? Specifically looking within unmodified model_animation_graph tags. Digsite, while obtaining a lot of unused TAKES on animations (melee/grenade throw, et al), it shouldn't be used as a resource.

Some weapons have unused first-person animations still within their animation graph tags. An example of this is the Assault Rifle, which still contains the stealth-kill animation, an animation which resembles the standard melee animation of the shotgun, and flashlight-on / flashlight-off animations, all seen in the Gamestock demo in March of 2001. While you can replace the regular melee animation with stealth-kill, unfortunately the code for utilising the flashlight animations, no longer functions.

Unused Vehicle Spawns#

To do:
There's way more than just unused vehicle spawns. There are entire encounters cut from the final game, just commented out.

The outdoor section of the level Silent Cartographer has unused spawn points for Banshees and Ghosts.
