Welcome, Hacker.

You are currently under attack from an opposing hacker. We require the best of you. Destroy him or her, before the same is done to you.

Greetings Agent,

This is a server test mission.
You should have already completed it. If not, accept this now, and finish your first task.
Bring down the news server.

Greetings Agent,

An employee in our company recently left us to work for a competitor. In doing so, he took a large volume of internal data from our company with him, and it would be unfortunate for us if he was allowed to keep it.

We would like you to access this individual's computer and delete this information. It is likely to be stored in a single archive file without backup copies.

Thankyou,

Original Ending Mission#

Unused in the code, but still in the files. It seems the game would've originally ended at Entropy, rather than CSEC.

#PLAYERNAME#,

This is the final thing the entropy group will directly ask of you - if you succeed or fail, it will be far too risky for us to maintain such.. personal contact.

This mission is one of eradication. A large corporation we have been keeping tabs on for some time is developing a new operating system known as "HacknetOS", based on the research of the recently deceased hacker "Bit".
This is a huge threat to the security of the digital world as we know it - the tools this system provides can make the process of hacking possible for even the most basic user with some small training.

This threat needs to be completely eliminated.
You have the *full* support of entropy on this matter, and as such, two powerful (and expensive) new tools have been added to the Entropy asset server for you to use in this task. You will likely need them. I suggest retrieving them immediately.

Attached is a link to the internal services machine of the corporation responsible for this. They will have several backups, no doubt, and you will need to scan their network thoroughly to make sure all traces of this threat are completely removed.

We wish you the best of luck. Do not fail us.

Congratulations!

You just completed the alpha demo of Hacknet!
This was a side project started in a 48hour game jam between friends, and people liked it so much that I worked on it casually for a while to produce what you just finished.
Development's continuing, but i'm not going to rush it to try and finish the game by any specific date - it'll be done when I think it's ready.

Thanks for playing! If you liked the game (or didn't), send me an email at "mtrobbia@gmail.com" and let me know what you think. Suggestions welcome!

If you're interested in following more stuff I make, or want to bug me to work more on this, you can follow me on twitter as @Orann, or my website www.fractalalligator.com.

Thanks,
-Matt

P.S: The linked computer has a few secrets from the game on it - take a look!

CSEC Tester Mission#

    Yo,

Thanks for helping test! This is a warmup mission designed to get you re-familiarised with the hacking mechanics.
You've been given a bunch of admin nodes to use, and your basic set of 4 programs (SSHCrack, WebServerWorm, SMTPOVerflow, FTPBounce).

Get Admin on the linked computer and reply to this to continue.
Doing so will send you straight up to CSEC level where you can start accepting the newer contracts.
Dont forget to go to the CSEC asset server first!
