Gyruss (Arcade)

Gyruss is an omnidirectional tube shooter wherein the player travels from Neptune to Earth. As in most shooters, things will shoot and be shot at.

It also beats Roc'n Rope by having not one but two members who left/were fired from Konami and eventually worked at Capcom. Oh well, I'm sure they didn't work on anything that successful after thi... Oh.

Unused Graphics#

A sphere with circling arcs of light. Is it an enemy? A powerup? A planet? Nobody knows.

Graphics for 200- and 500-point bonuses (the used ones start at 1,000). The former is the score value associated with the satellites, while the latter is used when shooting the orange version of the unused sprite above.

Regional Differences#

Centuri licensed Gyruss in the US, while Konami distributed the game elsewhere.

High Score List#

Konami

Centuri

Centuri changed the top four names on the default high score list to their own. Makes sense.

Extra Life Settings#

For whatever reason, Centuri increased the scores needed to get extra lives, making the game more difficult.
