Gridiron Fight is the first Tehkan/Tecmo sports game. It quickly became such a hit that Shinichiro Tomie (a big fan of soccer) proposed the same formula be used for a soccer game a year later.
It's also the precursor of the Tecmo Bowl series.
Regional Differences#
The international version was, for a very long time, the only one playable on emulators such as MAME. The Japanese version would finally become playable with the release of MAME 0.281.
