This game/console's online features are no longer supported.
While this game/console's online features were once accessible, they are (as of December 1, 2023) no longer officially supported and online-exclusive features may be documented as now-unseen content.

GT Racing 2 is the second and final game of the series released in 2013 featuring less content than it's predecessor but with a significantly longer and grinder campaign, introducing a co-driver, better graphics and more arcade-like physics in contrast to its originally intended realistic simulator.

As of December 1, 2023, the game's online services have been shut down; as such, online features like Multiplayer, Team Clash, GT Challenge, Online-required achievements, and the Daily Race Bonus are no longer available.

Canceled Hypercar Update#

5 different cars were mentioned as text in the game files of the game after the Team Clash Update released, providing substantial evidence that GT Racing 2 was supposed to get a hypercar update, with all 5 cars likely planned to be high-end Class S cars (NOTE: The name of the cancelled update is not confirmed, & this name is only a fan-given nickname for it). The vehicles in question included the following:

  • Ferrari LaFerrari
  • Jaguar C-X75
  • Koenigsegg Agera R
  • McLaren P1
  • SSC Tuatara

Gameloft made no announcement, neither for the update's confirmation nor its cancellation. That said, it seems likely that the update was cancelled early on & replaced with the Team Clash Update.

Removed Vehicles#

In the Team Clash Update (v1.5.3), seven cars were removed for certain platforms due to licensing issues.

  • Toyota FT-86 II
  • Lexus GS 350
  • Toyota Supra RZ (Mark IV)
  • Tesla Model S
  • SEAT Leon WTCC
  • Alpine A110-50
  • 1972 Alpine A110

In a patch update (v1.5.6a), all seven cars were removed across all platforms.

Scrapped Music#

Aside from the removed songs, at least one song ultimately never made it into the game.

Track

Notes

"Electro 7" by Mathieu Vachon

Reused from Asphalt 7: Heat. Strangely, a part of this song was still used to replace audio from S.W.A.G. in the introductory cutscene.

Unused/Unreleased Vehicles#

The following vehicles never made it into the final release, only ever existing in the files themselves. It is unknown at this time if models for the vehicles existed.

  • Aston Martin One-77
  • Audi Quattro (incorrectly listed as an R8 model)
  • BMW M3 GTR
  • Citroen C4 VTS
  • Pagani Huayra (seen in the main menu of the Java version, though for some reason it used a screenshot from Need for Speed: The Run; also has data file)
  • Renault Clio RS 2006 (seen in beta version, replaced with the IV version)
  • Renault Clio V6 Renault Sport (data only)

Unnamed LMP1 Vehicle Leftovers#

Among the handful of unused/unreleased vehicles, one particular cut vehicle stands out, a car only known as the "Toyota LMP1," with its data discovered in the files. Unlike others, this car has no name whatsoever, with "LMP1" likely being a placeholder. While this unnamed vehicle is generally believed to be the Toyota TS030 Hybrid, it is still unknown what this LMP1 car could have been.

Unobtainable Vehicles#

Due to the game's online services being shut down, the cars below are no longer obtainable legitimately, either due to being an exclusive in-app purchase car in a pack that has now been made unpurchaseable or only being winnable from GT Challenge events, which are no longer being held.

  • Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4
  • Ferrari 458 Italia
  • Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
  • Maserati 300 S 1956
  • Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniv. (Obtainable from the last day of the Daily Race Bonus from the first month, which is no longer possible due to it being connected to the online services)
  • Savage Rivale GTS
  • Savage Rivale GTS Winter
  • Nissan Datsun 260Z
  • Lamborghini Veneno
  • Bugatti Veyron
  • W Motors Lykan Hypersport

Most of the L Class cars (except the aforementioned Maserati 300 S 1956, Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniv. and Nissan Datsun 260Z) were made purchasable around the same year before the shutdown. Ironically, this change does not apply to other event prize cars.

Errorneously, Gameloft didn't change the premium cars requirements in the offline update. Since most of the cars in the game (except the F Class cars where only one car from that class is needed to beat the Compact Showdown) are required to complete the game's career mode, this makes the game no longer possible for 100% completion.

Platform Differences#

Windows#

As the UWP version is based on version 1.2.0 (1.2.8.1 as latest), here are some changes:

  • All of the licensed music is absent.
  • The menu still takes place in the Heimstrecke track alongside with its unique showroom, whereas mobile got the Barcelona environment later on.
  • Many of the cars added after this update don't appear. The Bugatti Veyron also costs in-game currency as opposed to real money, therefore making it possible to obtain in this version.
  • The game's .gla archives are not encrypted; they can be opened like regular .zip files.
  • The .bdae models in the files have source DAE files inside. They can be opened in Blender as long as the references to materials (e.g RaceCarMaterial.bdae) are removed with a hex editor or similar tool.
  • On low-end computers or laptops, the game may crash after winning a race since it freezes for one frame after finishing.
  • Team Clash, GT Challenge and the online multiplayer modes do not appear, as they were added after.
  • The career mode layout is different.
