Fate (DOS)

This game was never completed and/or given a public release.
As a result of this, keep in mind that the developers might have used or deleted some of the content featured here, had the game actually been released.

Fate (in no way related or to be confused with either franchise by Type-Moon or WildTangent) is an unreleased game made in Ken Silverman's Build Engine (of Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood fame)

A four-level demo (v0.90a) was publicly released in 1996, but the game was canned later that year as its intended publisher IntraCorp went bust.

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically:

  • Probably more unused graphics (ART002 seems to have some unused items).
  • Check if TEST.WAV is used.
  • look into the .bnk files.

Launch Parameters#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Are there any more?

  • /? - Help screen.
  • /HELP - Ditto
  • /VIDMODE - Configure video mode.

Note: if you load a map at the command prompt (e.g. fate start), you will need to start a new game to load into the map.

These are placed at the start of each .ART file. Likely used by the developers as a way to denote which .ART file is being edited in EditArt.

2097

A splash screen that may have been intended for a press build. Notably features a creature that doesn't appear in the demo.

2110

A credits splash screen, including a message to any interested in the full release to contact Sean Potter. The "coming soon" graphic when the game is quit seems to fill this graphic's purpose.

2783

Appears to be an enemy, judging by its placement after the other enemies' graphics. Only has a single tile, though.

Unused Text#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Look into TEXT.DAT and the EXE some more.

Unused text found in the exe (used for menus and other situations).

Found near names for the levels present in the demo appear to be a few that are absent from it.

God Mode#

As mentioned in the readme, God Mode can be toggled with F8.
