F1 Super Lap

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically:

  • Are there any leftovers pertaining to Ayrton Senna in this game? Gerhard Berger, his teammate, is in the #1 McLaren, likely because Senna had moved to separately license his name and likeness by 1993 (see most 1993 F1 games, where McLaren is made up of Michael Andretti and Mika Häkkinen, or SEGA's F1 Beyond the Limit, where the player can set the name and number for what would be Senna's car)

F1 Super Lap is basically a FIA Formula One World Championship licensed version of F1 Exhaust Note, with a different track and a nitrous mechanic.

Present at 0x8E9C8 in the main CPU is the string

which is never used since it's impossible to have a zero player game.

Revisional Differences#

An alternate, undumped Japanese version of the game is known to exist with different team selections depending on the network ID number, so that the players with first two network IDs could play as two of the "big four" teams and the two teams with Japanese drivers (Aguri Suzuki and Ukyo Katayama drove for Footwork and Venturi respectively during the 1992 season). The Japanese version in MAME currently has the same team selections as the World version, where each network ID has one "big four" team assigned.

The Japanese flyer for the game features the line-up in order from this undumped alternate version.
