Mission PIPs

This article has a talk page!
view on tcrf.net

This is a sub-page of Driver: San Francisco (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, Mac OS X).

This subpage covers unused picture-in-picture (PIP) video files (forming part of the game's conversation system and the storyline itself) that would otherwise normally show up during gameplay. Some of these PIPs use placeholder text-to-speech voice-overs.

Ordinary PIPs are suffixed with _pipXX to their file names, whereas mission preview PIPs are suffixed with _mpr01 to their filename. The UID prefix corresponds to an existing mission ID - some of which no longer exist in game code.

Mission PIPs#

Test PIPs#

Several PIPs used to test the conversation system reference a null mission ID. Some of the PIPs are early takes for dialog in specific missions (including scrapped ones), whereas others merely act as filler, presumably to test if any crashes originating from within the game's scene manager occur.

Ricky: Oh, that's funny, Ray. Let's get to the hospital while our passenger is still alive, and we'll all talk about how funny you are when we get there. Drive!

Deja Vu story mission#

Earlier renditions of existing conversation PIPs, as well as a subset of response PIPs which were supposed to be played when shifting into a vehicle other than the players, were slated to be included as part of the Deja Vu mission but ultimately scrapped.

In the final game, Deja Vu was split into one mission for Chapter 7, two missions spanning across a single eighth chapter and one mission for a ninth chapter (the game's epilogue) to accommodate for unique custom world states - this design decision resulted in multiple copies of the same PIPs showing up across different mission IDs.
