To do:

  • Document the debug menu
  • Unused Training UI assets
  • Unused Character Select icons (Bloody Roar 3 renders and some concept art of the newcomers)
  • Unused Title Screen Background
  • Placeholder Banner/Icons
  • Unused Alternate costume for Fang

Bloody Roar: Primal Fury is a game where people who turn into animals beat each other up. Very interestingly enough, there's different unused content depending on the version you dig into.

Unused Sounds#

There is a unused voice clip of the Announcer saying "Bloody Roar: Primal Fury" in the game. The voice clip would have been intended to be used in the title screen, just like the Japanese versions of Extreme did, but it just never plays. Interestingly, the international versions of Extreme (The American/European version in Xbox) do not play a voice clip in the title screen either, so it implies that the international versions of the game would not use a voice clip in the title screen, because of the fact that there is one for said purpose in the first version released of the game that isn't used.

Unused Characters#

Fang the Wolf#

There is an extra character called Fang, who is only normally playable in Extreme by picking Yugo's "third costume". To play as Fang in Primal Fury, enable these Gecko codes and you will be using him during the battles (He won't show up in the character select). Note that unless you are playing in COM Battle, the codes won't change the character for the CPU.

Player 2 controls Fang [NA]

001AB217 00000005

He is fully playable with all his moves and voices, but the prologue video doesn't play if you use him (while it can't be told that if it's intentional or a glitch, it also happened in Extreme), and as he isn't supposed to have a 2nd costume (In Extreme, only one player can use him as he is selectable as Yugo 3rd costume), trying to play as him with the alternate costume will make him use Yugo 1st costume model instead (as he is based in Yugo, it's probably a placeholder).

Progressive Scan#

Progressive scan was only available in the Japanese version. According to an interview with the developer, it was planned for the US. Likewise, both versions have unused English text for the feature, beginning at 178C30 in boot.dol (US version). This text is not in the European version. Progressive scan is actually implemented in the US version, but it can only be enabled using a debug menu.

Other Changes#

  • Shina was named Marvel in Japan, a name change which first happened in Bloody Roar 2.
  • A voice can be heard saying "Bloody Roar Extreme" in the Japanese versions of Extreme, while Primal Fury doesn't play any sound (despite that one exists unused in the files), and neither do the international versions of Extreme in the Xbox.
  • There are some glitches present in Primal Fury that were fixed in Extreme. For example, if Yugo uses his counter move with really low health and he gets attacked, he will get KO'd but he still will counter-punch the other player, and will KO the other player if it also has really low health, but this doesn't happen in Extreme, with Yugo only getting KO'd and he won't counter-punch.
