Unused Items#

To do:

  • Find code that references these items, then screenshot them.
  • Find more unused items, if there are any more.
  • Has the code that references these items been removed?

All of the below objects have very little remaining about them, having just an entry in the game’s files, with no code left over for them.

Fidget Spinner#

It's unknown what this was for. Notably, a fidget spinner appeared in one of the death screens in Classic. Could it have been the same one?

Spy Camera#

It might've been used for seeing through walls. In later versions, the code for it was removed.

Foot Ball#

Possibly meant to be thrown at characters in the Schoolhouse, or possibly meant for a scrapped football minigame that was planned for the game before being scrapped all-together.

Bear Trap#

Baldi's_Basics_Plus_TrapOpen.png Baldi's_Basics_Plus_TrapClose.png

Bear traps were structures that could appear in the camping field trip in Baldi's Basics Plus, prior to the first field trip revamp in V0.3, which got rid of them. Bear traps were scattered around the forest where the player collected logs. If the player or any other characters walked on it, they would become stuck for around 5 seconds before being able to move again.

Sticker Bonus#

Baldi's_Basics_Plus_Sticker_Bonus.png

Sticker Bonus was a sticker featured in V0.13 Pre-release. It was removed in V0.13 Pre-release 2 because the player cannot get sticker packets from Baldi.

Unused Graphics#

Unused Character Sprites#

Unused Baldi Animations#

Before V0.3, there were unused animations of Baldi slapping his ruler with his field trip oufits, used during the old field trips. These were later removed from the game when the revamped field trips were implemented. There were some animated sprites of Baldi in the second version of camping and farm field trips, especially the one where Baldi was visibly disappointed in the farm field trip, which was never used in the game. It would have been used when the player brought the incorrect animal into the barn or ran out of time, though it was scrapped likely because it would require Baldi to stay on the screen, which would cover some parts of the maze. There were two sprites that got removed in Baldi's Basics Plus V0.3: Baldi slapping his ruler in his camping and farm outfits. These were removed due to the field trips being revamped. Some camping Baldi sprites have returned in V0.7 for the tutorial of each minigame after the second version of the camping field trip was removed in V0.6.

Baldi Dabbing#

Before V0.3, Baldi would dab during the ending, and the game would then quit to the title screen. This was removed as it was a placeholder for the actual ending mystman12 was still producing. However, the current ending still isn't the finished one.

Unused Textures#

In the Baldi's Basics Plus asset files, there is an unused MPTK logo. This is a leftover from the Midi Player Tool Kit, which is what mystman12 used to make Midi files work in BB+.

Baldi's_Basics_Plus-Logo_MPTK.png

AreaTex.png#

Looking through the game files, there is a texture called AreaTex.png. This texture is from the post-processing program called "ReShade" which gets added to the game files once you install ReShade to it. Why it's here is unknown, maybe the developer was messing around with ReShade and didn't uninstall it properly?

Baldi's_Basics_Plus-AreaTex.png.png

Calibration Value Marker#

A downwards-pointing arrow, used for calibration purposes.

Baldi's_Basics_Plus-Calibration-value-marker.png

Default Hotdog#

In the Pick-Quick-Nic minigame, there is an unused plain hot dog sprite.

Baldi's_Basics_Plus_Hotdog_Default.png

Old Math Machine Design#

This is the old design for the Math Machine. It was quite obviously a placeholder, and was replaced with the final design in version 0.2, though it was still used for a bit afterwards due to an issue with the level generator.

This test poster was only used in the Development Build, but is still in the files. It's pretty hard to read, but it likely says something along the lines of "Bark-Bark! Grr... Row!" and "Umm."

Baldi's_Basics_Plus-TestComic.png

Elevator#

Graphics for the old version of the elevator, used until version 0.2.

Unused Elevator Gate Textures#

In the early public demo, these gate textures were used, spelling “RUN” in a pixelated dark red font. The gate was not dithered well, possibly just a placeholder. These were removed in prior versions of V0.2 replacing the textures with a now properly dithered gate texture and a texture with a note saying “OUT OF”.

Unused Heads#

A cutout of a photo from mystman12's younger years, alongside a unsettling heavily edited image of Baldi, who appears to be frowning. The former would later be used in Classic Remastered

This thing gets referenced a lot. This is Bad alright... Literally.

Unused Playtime Poster Texture Description#

This texture, which is almost the same as the one from Baldi's Basics Classic (except without the wall texture in the background), was used in the first version of the public early demo up until V0.2, when an updated version featuring an extra line was used. This new version was itself replaced in V0.3.5 when all text became separated from textures.

Unused Placeholder Wall Textures#

Four textures, used for debugging, being used for the directions "North", "South", "East" and "West".

CRT filters#

In the game files since Full Game Early Demo, there is a series of random images. The images are actually from a CRT filter in Unity that mystman12 used for a while which in itself became cut from the final release. Some additional CRT filter related files were added to the game files of V0.12 of Baldi's Basics Plus. They also do not appear anywhere in the game.

Placeholder Sprites#

This placeholder image was used for the Kickstarter page as, well, a placeholder. It was specifically used for user-submitted images to be used as posters in the game for backers who pledged $500 or more.

Unused Characters#

Animals#

Animals were characters exclusively featured in the farm field trip from V0.3.2 to V0.3.8. The gorilla was only featured in the game scripts, but it was never implemented.

TestNPC#

Watch on YouTubeThere are scripts that belong to a TestNPC in the code of V0.4 that was made to presumably test the NPC state machine. It would wander around and if sighted would pursue the player. Upon contact, it would "GoCrazy" and warp to 100x its speed for 30 seconds before reverting. It seems to use an early version of the NPC state machine and or state system.

So Long, Jerk#

Before version 0.3, the file name for the "EVERYONE GETS DETENTION!!! I QUIT" chalkboard was (without underscores, and with proper grammar): "So long, jerk. I've had enough of your horrible management. I haven't seen my family in three days. I'm leaving." This was very obviously done as a joke, but the name was likely changed due to length and the lack of underscores

Baldi's_Basics_Plus_So_Long,_Jerk.png

The Hide & Seek Cheater#

Baldi can rarely open his right eye, while counting down, but only when the player is not nearby. If the player returns to him, Baldi will quickly close his right eye and continue counting down. This only happens in versions after V0.2.2.

Baldi's_Basics_Plus-BAL_CountPeek.gif

Run.#

After giving An Apple for Baldi to, well, Baldi, this voice clip plays while he's eating it. However, it's almost impossible to hear in-game due to a combination of how quiet it is and how loud Baldi's eating is. Whether or not this belongs here is up to interpretation.

Judging by the caption colors, it's actually Baldi himself who's saying this, which has some interesting implications.

run

NINENINE#

Watch on YouTubeWatch on YouTube

In version 0.7 (which was released on September 9, 2024), there is a very big secret that is related to the number 99. This secret only works if the date on the computer is set to September 9, 2024. If you wait exactly 99 seconds in the menu, the yellow numbers 99 will appear on the screen, and the voice of Principal of the Thing will say "99 SECOND". After a while, the player will be met with a screen of text where an unknown surveyor has neutralized a threat, assesses the situation, and then determines the possibility that the encounter is a coincidence (which is usually 18%). After that, they turn to the player and tell the player to accept the agreement. If the player declines it, the surveyor will flash an image of _, and tell them that "YOU HAVE NO CHOICE IN THE MATTER", and they have to "ACCEPT THE AGREEMENT BEFORE [THEY] DESTROY YOUR COMPUTER". This never happens, as the more times the player declines, the more this process repeats until they press Accept. The player will be asked random questions, but after the last question, no matter what the player answers, the announcer will say "INFORMATION INCOMPATIBILITY DETECTED" and fill the entire screen with the red text "LIAR". Underscore will appear onscreen and a glitchy static sound is heard in the background. After a while, the surveyor would tell the player that they are DOOMED, before telling the player to accept another offer of theirs. The offer in question is that the player would have to answer one last question, and in return, would be fed some secrets. They tell them that the encounter itself is not canon, BUT that does not mean the secrets being told are not canon. If the offer is accepted, the survey will continue. However, if the player declines it, the surveyor will respond with, "YOU ARE USELESS TO ME", and the game will crash shortly after. Regardless of which option is chosen, _ will disappear and the glitching will stop. On Question 4, the unknown individual asks the player if they know anything about 99 and an unknown matter known as 99. This question is guaranteed, as part of the section after the third question being scripted. After the player answers the question, they will give out one final "THANK YOU FOR INTEL" before a weird static noise starts playing over an image of BadSum. In the process, questioner reveals that "BadSum" is not the character's real name, that his appearance is outdated, that he will look different when the player sees him again, and that "99" and BadSum might meet someday in "Baldi's Basics T", with the full name of "Baldi's Basics T" being cut off. Then the message "99) MISSION COMPLETE; TERMINATE FUNCTIONALITY" will appear, and the game will close. There is a rare chance that the yellow numbers 99 will be destroyed less than 15 times after 99 seconds. After that, a red message will appear "WHERE IS 99. IT IS HERE NOW. WHERE IT BELONGS. IT HAS NO RELEVANCE TO WHAT CAME BEFORE. BUT IT IS CRUCIAL TO WHAT LIES AHEAD". Then a red number 99 will appear, which will gradually increase, and then the game will crash.

Test rooms#

In files with versions V0.3.8 to V0.6, there were test maps that were completely removed from version V0.7. All of them can be opened using Unity Explorer.

Light test room#

Watch on YouTubeIn V0.6, the player spawns on an empty room. The floors, walls, and ceilings use the placeholder textures. The other side of the room is inaccessible (unless using hacks), has blue lighting, and contains Baldi and Playtime behaving normally. Getting caught by Baldi and restarting soft-locks the game unless ALT-F4 on Windows or Command-Q on MacOS is pressed. In V0.3.8, the light test room contained a Math Machine in the middle of a room and a shrink machine. The room was also half dark, half not. It gets darker as the player walks in it. Each wall tile had the same chalkboard as in Baldi's Office, with buttons and levers as seen in Baldi's Basement on some of those chalkboards, a wall with functioning standard door near the shrink machine.

Occlusion culling test map#

Watch on YouTubeThis map was shown in one of the bi-monthly Kickstarter updates. It appears to filled with tons of objects, presumably for testing optimization technics, such as "occlusion culling" that was firstly introduced in Baldi's Basics Classic V1.4. A different occlusion culling test map containing lots of empty rooms and hallways (and some posters), most of them inaccessible without using hacks.

NPC state machine test#

Watch on YouTubeThis level is most likely a floor test, as it is randomly generated when you enter it. And this level has almost all the mechanics from the main floor.

Old Minigames#

Farm#

Watch on YouTubeThe farm field trip was completely different prior to V0.3. There was a checkered flag for the goal beyond this point instead of a barn. The player had to navigate the maze and reach the flag to complete the field trip. After completing, there were stars for the grade and the player would receive some items to use in the Super Schoolhouse. If the timer reached a random time between 150 and 350, a giant Gotta Sweep would appear and reap all the corn, getting rid of the entire maze. After Gotta Sweep completely passed through the player, Baldi would spawn and chase them down. After reaching the flag, a message that appeared in the chalkboard said: "You made it through! You win the knowledge of how good corn is, and these items!".

The old description was "Find your way out of the corn maze as quickly as possible!".

The corn texture was reused in the new version of the minigame, but it was resized to be smaller.

Watch on YouTubeThe second version took place in a maze made of corn walls and a barn on the top left. The objective was to bring all matching animals to the barn in the allotted time. In Hide-and-Seek, there were a total of three rounds and each round had a different animal to get into the barn. In every round, a random animal would be shown in the window on top of the barn. The respective animal's sound would be played. If all matching animals were not brought in time or a wrong animal was brought to the barn, a star would be lost accompanied with a screaming sound (possibly from the farmer). The player could get the animal to the barn by clicking on the animal and dragging it to the barn's entrance. Note that animals cannot be dragged through the walls of the corn maze and must be dragged to the barn's entrance. After all rounds were completed, a message written in a chalkboard appeared. It said: "Thanks to you, all the work is done sooner (Rather then later)! The hot dogs smell great!" When failing by losing all three stars, it said: "You lost?! Try better next time!". In the Field Trips mode, there were an infinite number of rounds. For every five rounds completed, the maze would be shuffled. After the 10th round (if the player did not fail before), sheep were added in the farm. The timer changed as the player progressed. Score point would be received based on the time left.

The description was "Help the farmer bring his animals back into the barn! Lead them through a corn maze as quickly as you can! The faster you are, the more points you'll earn!"

Camping#

Watch on YouTubeThe camping field trip was completely different prior to V0.3. The center of this area consisted of a campfire. The player had to search for logs in order to keep the campfire going. Baldi would start to chase the player if the fire goes out. When the player put more logs into the campfire, they would earn additional points or "extra score" in-game. Other characters also appeared: Arts and Crafters would charge at the player if they go behind the "NO" signs for more than 10 seconds, and after a few seconds, he would teleport the player near the campfire along with Baldi himself next to the campfire if the fire is already out, so Baldi would still have a chance to end the player's field trip as well. Cloudy Copter was floating in mid-air at the beginning, but after 30 or more seconds later, he would descend into the ground and start blowing wind on the campfire, making it shrink two times faster than normal, but will vanish when the player comes near him. It's a Bully, hiding behind a tree, would sneak at the player and steal all of their logs upon contact, although he will not move if the player does not have any logs. Once he steals all the logs, he will flee away from the player and never come back.

The old description was "Collect and use sticks to keep the fire from burning out!".

Watch on YouTubeThe second version of the camping field trip took place at around midnight, with a tent surrounded by mountains and evergreen trees. Baldi guided the player on how the field trip worked. Each campfire had a different number which was the answer to each arithmetic problem. The logs that fell into each campfire had math questions on them. The player had to click in between campfires to switch them so that each set of logs fell into the campfire with the number that was the answer to the math question displayed. There were 3 campfires at the beginning, but after completing the 6th set, another campfire was added, so the player had to solve 4 questions correctly per set. If the player inputted the logs incorrectly, they lost one star. If the answer to the math problem on the logs was smaller than the campfire's number, the fire burned out and if the answer was bigger, the fire became too big. After solving 10 sets of questions with at least one star left, a message appeared in a chalkboard saying: "You done it! The fires are really warm! You've earned these prizes!" When losing all three stars, it said: "You lost?! Try better next time!" In the Field Trips mode, the camping field trip consisted of an infinite number of sets. It ended after there were no stars left. As the player progressed, division and 3-digit numbered questions were shown. The description was "Help Baldi put the correct amount of sticks in each fire! You'll need to be a quick thinker if you want the highest score!" This version of the camping trip was removed in V0.6 to prepare for the new version of field trips.

Authentic Mode#

Authentic Mode was accidentally added into Plus in V0.3.5. This was then properly added in Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered as a secret code in the You Can Think Pad, where you have a more limited view, a somewhat massive border with the HUD and the Baldicator always being present, looking side-by-side when idle (much like a certain game from 1993), as well as forcing you to use the keyboard to move, and having to awkwardly use a lever above the staminometer to start/stop running. Also, you only have three item slots in main gameplay, but you have all five of them in Johnny's Store.

Graphics#

Baldicator Heads#

Three unused Baldicator heads that have existed in the game's files since V0.3.5. The used heads appear in the bottom right corner of your screen when the player makes any type of noise, but these ones were meant to be used in Authentic Mode when nothing is happening. These later got implemented in Classic Remastered, alongside Authentic Mode itself.

bully_final#

In the game's files, the Bully's sprite is named "bully_final", indicating that he had a different design at one point. This was also the case in Baldi's Basics Classic. This also implies that the model used in Mystman12's video "I'm Animating!" is not the same as the one we see ingame.

Bully's Resting Place#

Prior to v0.4, when It's a Bully disappears after an encounter and is not being used, he is stored underneath the map alongside other currently unused or disappeared items. This can be found through hacking or a rare glitch when 1st Prize pushes the player while teleported by any character.

In the farm field trip prior to Baldi's Basics Plus V0.3, if 150–350 seconds have passed, a colossal-sized version of Gotta Sweep, with a nozzle similar to a corn harvester, text attached to it, reading: "I LIKE CORN", and a short handle, would spawn as he would yell "GOTTA REAP, REAP, REAP!!!". He would begin to cut down all the corn across his path and would cause a hostile Baldi to spawn after he passed by the player.

Mrs. Pomp was originally going to have higher times for you to reach her classroom. Was probably removed because 2 minutes is good enough for Floors 2 & 3, but these COULD be reused for future versions.

Description

You can expel someone for the rest of your game!

Vfx_Jon_InfoExpel

Johnny would likely say this if the player hovers the mouse over the currently unavailable expelling "suspend" hammer. Since V0.6, this quote was eventually scrapped due to Johnny's Store getting a redesign.

Alright, I'll take care of it.

Vfx_Jon_InfoExpel1

Johnny would say this upon the player purchasing the expelling "suspend" hammer.

Okay, I'll let them know.

Vfx_Jon_InfoExpel2

You are a JERK!

Vfx_Jon_InfoExpel3

Who do you wanna expel?

Vfx_Jon_ExpelWho

Come back when you're a little... MMM- Richer!

Vfx_Jon_TooMuch4

A nice little reference to Morshu, which is also related to not having enough You Thought Points to get something from Johnny's Store. This line still hasn't been recorded.

This will fill out your map for the next level.

Vfx_Jon_InfoMap

This subtitle was originally in the game when Johnny's Store was added, but the "for the next level." part of the dialogue was cut, with the subtitle changed to reflect this.

You break it, you buy it! ...I'm usually the one who breaks it though.

Vfx_Jon_YouBreak

It might have been used for when the player purchases an item, or some unimplemented feature, or if the player hovers the mouse over the latter.

*Dryer running?*

Sfx_Dryer

It's unknown what this subtitle was for. A scrapped event, maybe?

I can't remember what this one is supposed to say...

YCTP_Recover2

More than likely a joke. This is actually in place of what would've been "Keep up the good work or see me after class..." which is one of the possible things the You Can Think Pad can display in Baldi's Basics Classic when you get all three questions right in endless mode. We know this because YCTP_Recover1 says "That's more like it..." which is the other line the You Can Think Pad can say in the same scenario.

What the?! This shouldn't be possible!

This subtitle was probably put in as a joke for dataminers.
