Backyard Basketball (Windows, Mac OS Classic)

The Backyard kids are at it again, this time taking up basketball. Interestingly, while this installment was released during the period of every game having pro teams and players, this one has no pro teams and only two pro players (Kevin Garnett and Lisa Leslie).

Developer Easter Egg#

Adding the line Ctra=1 to hegames.ini will enable a developer message ("All Your Base Are Belong To Us") when choosing Season Play at the main menu, as seen in the video at left.

Revisional Differences#

As with the other Humongous-developed Backyard Sports titles, the game saw a re-release under the name Backyard Basketball '01.

Opening Screens#

Like before, the original opening screens have been replaced with the Playground Productions and Mega Cat Studios logos. However, one gigantic difference is the absence of the opening animation (due to once again legal issues, as the opening includes cameos of other Humongous properties as well as other Backyard Sports games mentioning sports leagues that Playground Productions does not have the rights to, most notably Backyard Soccer: MLS Edition), which instead goes straight to the treehouse main menu. The removal of the opening animation also resulted in the basketball on the floor of the treehouse no longer being clickable.

Removed Player#

Despite the original release having just two professional players, Kevin Garnett and Lisa Leslie, Garnett was removed from the re-release as he did not grant his name and likeness to be reused. Since the game allows for players to make their own teams with nothing but custom players, he is not replaced by another kid unlike with previous remasters.

"Thanks for Everything" Note#

Like all other re-releases of the Humongous-developed Backyard Sports titles, the credits added a note for the original Humongous Entertainment.

To the good people from
Humongous Entertainment.

Thanks for everything.

Sorry we removed
every mention of your
company from the game.

Legal made us do it.
