August 22 and 29, 1994 Prototypes

JP Final and September 5, 1994 Prototype

Europe/U.S. Final

The "Virtua Racing" announcer was changed quite a bit between versions. Notably, the voice clip in the prototype actually originates from the arcade version where it exists unused in the files.

August 22 and 29, 1994 Prototypes

All other versions

The opening is missing a backing track in the two earliest prototypes, making the title song sound like it's looping.

General Differences#

  • The Sega logo simply plays the "SEEEGAAA" sound.
  • The opening tune plays without any change in melody.
  • Options menu is not accessible.
  • The header has "Virtua Racing" instead of "V.R.DX".
  • The "Virtua Racing" sound does not play upon pressing Start.
  • Both High Land and Sand Park use High Land's music track.
  • High Land and Sand Park are both missing course map pictures on the bottom of the course selection screen.

August 22 Prototype

Final versions

Acropolis's sign has "7th" written on it, as opposed to 32X.

August 22 Prototype

Final versions

Sand Park has a much more orange sand color. The SEGA text inscribed in the grass is missing in the prototype, and the concrete on the right has a smoother angle.

August 29, 1994 Prototype#

(Prototype source: [http://hiddenpalace.org/Virtua_Racing_Deluxe_(Aug_29,_1994_prototype) Hidden Palace])

General Differences#

  • The Sega logo still plays the "SEEEGAAA" sound.
  • High Land now plays 2P Race music, but Sand Park still has High Land music.
