This is a sub-page of Proto:The Revenge of the Smurfs.
The Cave Entry#
- Brainy and his lighting effects haven't been programmed yet. As such, the level is played with Hefty.

Final |
|---|---|
- This is the first level in the prototype in which the game starts to use placeholder graphics where enemies and certain objects are meant to be.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- Objects are non-functioning in this version. There's only one boulder instead of two, and Hefty can walk right through them.

- The first star is missing in the prototype.
- The first mini platform contains a few tile errors.

- The first spring is missing, as is the Golden Smurf Hat as per the norm.
- The star to the right is absent.
- The Smurfberry above there is also missing.
- This segment towards the bottom of the level was redesigned. In the prototype, it's not possible to climb upwards.

- There's a placeholder for a bat enemy at the far right of the level, but no bat made it here in the final.
- In this same area, there's a small pocket that the player can fall through, and walk behind the walls.
- It's near-impossible to reach the level exit due to the game physics.
The Cave#
- The background is off center.
- As before, the lighting effects haven't yet been programmed. Likely as a result, the animated hanging lanterns aren't here yet either.
- Speaking of lanterns, they are present in the level, but cannot be seen by the player without first removing the first layer, as they're stored outside the regular view.
- The boulders have not yet been programmed, but like the lanterns, they are hiding behind the cave layer. They received a different palette, plus a touch up for the final.

- One boulder would end up being removed.
- Despite being non-functioning, they still retain collision data. Which means it's not possible to complete this level by normal means, as the second boulder blocks Hefty's jump.
- The hidden boulders can be found at the beginning of the stage, at the first large stalactite, just above the next stalactite, two rolling down the chute and another past the last destructible boulders.
- Nearly all of the regular items are missing. All that has been left in are a trail of sarsaparilla leaves near the level end.

- The star was moved in the final, and the detonation box was added.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- The second detonation box cannot be passed. In addition to this, there's a star hidden inside the walls that cannot be grabbed.
- The small platform was modified and extended a little in the final.

- The star was moved inside the cave in the final, and instead a sarsaparilla leaf leads inside.

- This platform was lowered, for obvious reasons.

- There are two sets of boulders at the end, compared to one in the final.
- The exit sign is floating. It is non-functioning, as are the others beyond this stage.

The Mountain#
Part One#
- The first segment is devoid of all objects, including enemies.
- The mist layer is placed beneath the level backgrounds, so can only be viewed by disabling the other layers.
- The waterfall is animated, although it flows backwards. The animation was removed entirely in the final.
- There are invisible barriers at certain parts of the level, namely where the breakable boulders are in the final.
- The bridges are missing, but the collision for them has been added.
- It's easier to get pushed out from crawling behind the waterfalls.
- The hopping stones are smaller in the prototype.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- There's no exit sign at all.

Part Two#
- This area is much closer to final, with bees being implemented and items present. However, the bunnies are all static placeholders with no collision present.
- You can walk on the bottom of the level.
- The star is on the platform with the first two sarsaparilla leaves instead of to the left of the bee.
- All of the other sarsaparilla leaves found in the level are absent.
- Hefty is placed a little too far into the bridge.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- There's an extra life at the top of the level that was replaced with a Smurfberry.
- In the final game, there's a star above the snow. In the prototype, it's on the upper right section of the mountain.
- The slippery surface has not yet been implemented.
- A second star used to be opposite the exit, but it was removed in the final.
The Volcano#
- This level is barely playable as the coding for the lava function, whilst present, is not yet programmed correctly. As such, it is not possible to reach higher than the second batch of platforms before it crashes.
- You start at a little bit higher and further to the right in the prototype.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- The first two sarsaparilla leaves are missing.
- Some of the bottom tiles were modified for the final release. The player can never actually see these bottom tiles without removing the lava layer in the final game anyway.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- The trigger for the lava activates when Jokey Smurf leaps up on the second set of platforms, instead of when he approaches or breaks down the set of rocks.
- A star can briefly be seen just above this area, but it's been removed in the final.
- There's an extra life near the very top, which was also removed.
The Dragon#
- The dragon is non-functioning and the caged Smurf missing, and thus the boss cannot be completed.
- There's an extra platform, and the arrangement is different.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- There's a small black sprite at the top of the level which overlays the character sprite.
The Cliff#
- You start lower in the prototype.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- The background doesn't move.
- All enemies but the hedgehog are static placeholders who cannot hurt Hefty.
- Certain mechanics, such as the start of the logs and the holes in them, contain Angry Smurf placeholders.
- The logs themselves don't move in the prototype, but there's an animation playing constantly. They were completely redrawn for the final game.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- The level camera doesn't reach as high as it does in the final.
- You can walk on the bottom of the level.
- The extra life was replaced by a Golden Smurf Hat.

|---|---|
The Wall#
- The level is unplayable, as the bottom ground lacks any collision and Hefty falls to his doom continuously.
- The walls still use the graphics from the original game release. They were redrawn for the final.
Prototype |

- Enemies are static, but only some of the airborne enemies have been added.
- There's an invisible barrier at the very top of the level barricading the exit off for some reason.
- There's an extra life at the very top which was removed for the final.
Gargamel's Manor#
- This level still has graphics that resemble the original game. The final simplifies the graphics, and most items were given a different color.
- The ground floor is a bit higher in the prototype.
- Azrael has not yet been programmed. A static Angry Smurf is on the floor as placeholder.
- The first plant is further to the left, but like many enemies, is non-functioning. It's also placed inside the table.
- There's an extra dresser in the prototype.

- The sarsaparilla leaves nearby were changed.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- There's an extra life on the top shelf, along with a plant which is again underneath the shelf. In the final, the plant and extra life were removed and replaced with a star.
- There are individual shelves just to the left of this in the prototype, which were replaced with a full unit of shelves in the final.

- A stack of books with a Smurf doll on top of them can be found on the floor. The final places a different stack of books on the stool nearby.

- The Bzz Fly nearby is missing.
- The dresser to the left can be jumped into in the prototype, and features an 'X' bottle. The final makes the surface solid, and there's a regular bottle here instead.
- There's a plant here, but it's missing in the final.
- The star to the left is missing in the prototype.
- Additional wall shelves were added to the final.
- The Bzz Fly and star are missing from the top of the second set of shelves.
- A few Angry Smurf placeholders mark the spot where the smoke should go.
- A plant is missing from one of the wall shelves just past this.
- The fireplace has a black background in this version. In the final game, it has a seemingly erroneous grey background.

- A Bzz fly is missing from the cauldron. The cauldron does not fire projectiles.
- Two sarsaparilla leaves are missing from the shelf above the dresser.
- There's an extra life at the very top of the level, above the exit. As always, this was replaced in the final by a Golden Smurf Hat around halfway through the manor. There is, however, a star that was added to this shelf.

The Stairs#
- As with Gargamel's Manor, the graphics for the level still reflect those of the original game.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- The prototype has no items, enemies, or even placeholder objects.
- The level was extended considerably for the final. The prototype features just two windows.
- A glitch from the original release is still present - the player can see the level wrap when standing too close to the stairs.
Gargamel#
- Another level that's very early in development. Assets have been moved over, and the level layout is the same as final. Only the Howlibird moves, and the straw roof uses a palette from the level you came from previously.
Prototype |
Final |
|---|---|
- The clouds are static, like in the original releases.
- Gargamel doesn't cause damage, but the Howlibird's acorns do.
- You can move over the hovel without falling, and walk along the floor.
- The seesaw does not function.
- You can move to Smurfette's cage immediately, where she's falling in mid-air. Her shade of blue doesn't match Hefty's.
- If the Smurf value is changed to 02, Hefty will hold a key. Using this key will unlock the cage, but the game will fade out to a black screen since the ending has not yet been programmed.
