This page details one or more prototype versions of Soulcalibur III (PlayStation 2).

To do:

  • Organize the differences and be more specific!
  • Add screenshots/videos to compare with the final game.
  • There's at least three or so demos floating around, one for the Official PlayStation Magazine, one for the 2005 Holiday Demo Disc, one for the Press Kit discussed in the beginning of this page. Find what differences between them are!

A press kit demo for Soulcalibur III was released around the same time as the Official PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc Issue 98 in November 2005. It comes with pre-final footage taken from the Tokyo Game Show event in 2005 as a bonus before beginning the demo. It has quite a lot of interesting differences. Watch on YouTube

The player is not greeted with the announcer the the player "Welcome to the new stage of history." after entering the Mode Select Menu.

The Mode Select menu also features several different designs compared to the final game; notably the border on either side of the screen have a different, though just as ornate, design, with no elements to suggest they are columns and different coloration.

The border around the Mode Select header is more simple and lacks the prominent shadow background in the demo. The text is also written in both upper and lower case, as opposed to just upper case in the final.

The books that act as the indicators for the different selectable modes feature a slightly different design, with different coloration and more subtle ornamentation around the icons, which are also slightly different. The icon for Single Player Modes features a helmet with a more prominent gorget and opening on the visor. The inaccessible Options features two cogs instead of just one.

The border around the dialogue box also features a different border. Having an ornate gold design as opposed to a more simplistic blue with crystal embellishments.

The Single Player and VS modes have a different background, featuring an open landscape and the Soul Embrace (fusion of Soul Edge and the titular Soul Calibur) on the left page as opposed to archways looking out to an open sky.

The change to the header border as seen in the main Mode Select menu extends to here as well. The text was made just a slight bit smaller though.
