A prototype disk dated August 28th, with a disk burn date of September 12th, 2000. This build shapes the English translation in an early stage. Japanese text is present in some aspects but is otherwise largely phased out. Censorship is implemented, though some NPCs(such as the Nazr Bartender) still have a cigar in their mouth. Contains visual glitches and quirky load in animations at times.

Changes#
The game script is primarily in English, though interactions with objects, NPCs and some wrong choice responses are still in Japanese. It is littered with errors and work in progress translation. Future builds saw an improvement to structure sentences to flow better, while unfortunately, tossing out the original script. Instead, the characters were ad-libbed for the western audience and what the localization team thought best fit to how a character spoke for certain situations.
Cancelling a Super Move now works properly. Previously, the function was added, but was incomplete and would not skip the animation despite the numbers saying otherwise.
Dyne’s camera angle was slightly tweaked upon from the last build. Then it changed again. And again…

Briggs the Vice Captain states their destination is directly east of where Alfonso’s Ship was seized. It would’ve been a terrible, inconsistent misdirection for a Vice Captain, as there’s a Sky Rift in that direction. The prototype text does say southeast when asking Dyne for directions. It was likely a work-in-progress translation that was always meant to say southeast and not strictly east towards Pirate Isle.

Super Moves were initially named Spirit Moves. As Borris the Gunner magically loses his name and becomes an “Air Pirate” midway through explaining the concept of Spirit Moves, it may imply that this is an earlier translation that was updated after the August 28th build.

- Marco’s initial dialogue name is “Little Boy”. It is later corrected to “Young Boy”. Also, the Coliseum cutscene has him react non-verbally, such as “gasp¥ “ instead of “Huh?!”.

After defeating Grendel, Isapa makes a note that Vyse and co. can pass through an Iron Net now that Valuan Soldiers had abandoned Ixa’taka. In this version, he tells them it is possible to travel to the North Ocean through the mines. Presumably it was meant to guide the players to the Iron Net’s location, though this would’ve caused some directional issues as there are no secret pathways to the ocean from the mining site.

Don, a former Valuan Soldier in Esperanza, was changed to act in a more pitiful state than a hopeless drunkard who slurs his sentences. Enrique had a voice line removed from the US version where a line normally reserved when landing a critical hit in overworld battles is played as he declares not wanting to go back to Valua. In the previous build, most Yafutoman citizens had full names. This is reverted back to “Little Sister”, “Big Sister”, “Fisherman” and so on. Oddly enough, in this specific build, three Nazr citizens were named, and were also removed from the final build. According to Klayton Vorlick, the localization team got greenlit to rename characters however they saw fit. It is unclear who they are based on, as they could be friends, random people, just a generic name or someone within the industry.
Removed Names;
Little Sister = My
Big Sister = Thao
Fisherman = Kento
Girl = Kyoko(Yafutoma) Dara(Nazrad)
Cleaning Lady = Kaori
Young Maiden = Lia
Young Man = Kentra

Captain Vyse, I finished right on time! |
Oh, Captain Vyse! We’ve finished modifying the Delphinus, right on time! |
Vyse can check reactions of his crew depending on the story progression. Should the user talk to Belle before Enrique’s departure to Valua in Sailor’s Island, she makes a comment that Moegi must’ve felt awful inside ever since he left. But Enrique hasn’t left at this point(in fact, he is standing right behind her). A small change was made to add Moegi’s turbulent emotions because he was about to go. While it would’ve been fitting to Belle’s character as someone that is clumsy and forgets a lot of details, this is a story progression error.

Ryu-kan’s recruitment text is inconsistent. In order to get him onboard the ship, Vyse must reach a certain Swashbuckler rank. Anything below the requirement and the blacksmith will decline to join. Here, even if the conditions are met, Ryu-kan says he cannot travel with you, only that he can forge blades. This is a continuity error as he is stationed in the Delphinus(or Crescent Isle if idle) until the end of the game.

Errors#
Assessing Damage, using Focus or any type of Ship Kits in an Airship Battle prints the text as “NULL”. They are functional as intended and do not appear to cause issues.
After returning all the Blue Rogues’ back to Pirate Isle, Patch the Deckhand is named Borris the Gunner instead. Borris is another Air Pirate in Dyne’s Crew.
Erinn’s shop contains an improper game update where the buttons will remain black while everything else is properly loaded in. This is resolved when the user returns from Valua. In the final US version, this error can occur quite often and seemingly at any time in Disk 1.
Polly’s kiss doesn’t properly deload her face model after the animation finishes. This was fixed in the next build.
Don’s shoulder pad error from August 25th had yet not been fixed.
Recruiting Don or Merida can trigger a rare bug where they cause the inventory menu UI to disappear. Restarting the game fixes this error.
“Innkeeper” in Maramba is named “Innkeep” and “Innkeeper lady”.
In the Valuan Rail section when Vyse and Aika are running away from Galcian, there’s a chance the second scripted enemy encounter may cause the music to stop playing altogether.
End credits will not take you back to the splash screen. It will repeat every time you press the A button when the screen turns black.
