This is a sub-page of Proto:RimWorld.

University Game as seen upon launching the game. There is no title screen. Released in July 2012 as one of the earliest available prototypes of what would eventually become RimWorld, University Game (titled "Animus" by the programme) is extremely far removed from the final product. It does, nonetheless, resemble RimWorld in some key ways. It seems to be based on Prison Architect, except set in a fantasy university instead of a prison (hence the name).

Controls and UI#

Main map controls#

As in the final game, the map can be moved around using standard WASD controls, and can be zoomed in and out (but not dragged) by the middle mouse button. There are five time control buttons: Pause, step, and three different time controls. The step button presumably forwards the game one tick.

Inspecting#

Pawns and objects cannot be simply clicked on as in the final game, they can only be inspected by clicking on an "inspect" tool and then the tile you wish to inspect. It will then give you information about that tile and whatever is on it.

Pawns#

Pawns in their natural habitat

In this game are extremely early version of "pawns", the form that people take in RimWorld. There are 10 pawn variants total, 5 of which are children and 5 of which are adults, numbered A to E.

Needs and Thoughts#

A pawn's "status" screen.

A basic version of the needs and thoughts system present in the final game is used here. Pawns react to their environment dynamically, which in turn as an effect on their "Overall Mood". Their energy goes down over time, and sleeping in a bed replenishes it.

Activities#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Verify if the ShootPyroTarget activity does anything, I haven't figured it out yet

The "activities" tab largely resembles the "work" tab in the final game. There are 8 available tasks, presumably ordered from highest to lowest priority:

  • Build
  • PlaceThing
  • Demolish
  • Sleep
  • GoToClass
  • TeachClass
  • ShootPyroTarget
  • RelaxInCommonRoom

Skills#

There are 5 pawn skills. Note that "Building" is the only one to remain in the final game, albeit renamed to "Construction". While teaching was introduced in the Biotech DLC, it uses the Social skill.

  • Magic - Pyromancy
  • Magic - Summoning
  • Magic - Artifice
  • Building
  • Teaching
