Gameplay Differences#

By this point, proper work on most of Platinum's changes was already underway. Many Pokémon sprites have been updated, and the storyline continues to (mostly) follow Platinum's through to Spear Pillar.

  • Pokémon are now back to using their Diamond and Pearl sprite animations, making some animations look unfitting, due to the changed sprites.
  • More major trainers have animated battle sprites now, including your rival, and the Gym Leaders, but not the Elite Four. At this stage, however, the game waits until the animation finishes before proceeding with the battle, unlike the final.
  • Battle backgrounds (notably during the battle VS. Cynthia) got a slight visual overhaul.
  • Several more areas got their visual overhauls, including Pastoria City.
  • The Pokédex retains its Diamond and Pearl roster.
  • The Egg Determination glitch is still present.
  • The Vs. Recorder key item is already implemented and mostly functional, just with some placeholder assets and non-functional BP counter.
  • The updated battle intros for Gym Leaders have been implemented.
  • Several major trainers how use teams closer to release Platinum.
  • The Copyright and Title screens are identical to r1685.

Final (JPN)

  • The background and music for the initial TV broadcast are the still the same as Diamond and Pearl, but the text now matches the final game.
  • Barry's theme doesn't play when he enters your room soon after.

Final (JPN)

  • The missing area name fly-outs have been implemented.
  • Lucas or Dawn's theme now correctly plays during the events on Route 201.
  • Professor Rowan's briefcase now successfully spawns without the game crashing.
  • Rowan doesn't give you the TM for Return upon leaving the lab yet.

(TODO: dex graphics table)

  • The Pokédex now uses its Platinum color schemes.

Final (JPN)

  • The layout for the bottom screen in the battle UI has been finalized. The top still uses its design from r1685, however.
  • Trainers on Route 202 still have the same test Ball Capsules applied.
  • Looker is now present, albeit without his theme and using a placeholder sprite.
  • The Pokétch still uses the single-button format.
  • Charon is now at Valley Windworks, using Mars's sprites and a placeholder "?????" name.
  • The walls on the top floor of the Eterna Galactic Building have been fixed, now resembling final. The NPC scripts there have also been updated.
  • Cynthia still doesn't give you the Togepi egg.
  • Rotom at the Old Chateau can be encountered pre-National Dex, like in release Platinum.
  • The Hearthome City Gym's first room, while already featuring the flashlight gimmick, still retains the Diamond and Pearl map layout. As the elevators have been removed, this is as far as you can progress without using debugging features. If other rooms are accessed using debug, using the elevators in the remaining rooms crashes the game due to trying to move a non-existing object. Fantina is still treated as the fifth Gym Leader anyways.
  • Stopper NPCs have already been placed, and will disappear after the Fantina and Hearthome Rival fights.
  • Amity Square still uses its Diamond and Pearl lists, which exclude the starters.
  • The gift Eevee at Bebe's house can now be received pre-National Dex, albeit still at level 5, compared to the final's level 20.
  • The Happiny Egg from the Hiker next to the Route 209 gate can still be received.
  • The Lost Tower features its Platinum design, however without the fog.
  • The Veilstone City Gym, while looking like final, still lacks collision and proper trainer placements.
  • The Pokémon Mansion on Route 212 uses its Platinum fencing design now.
  • Collision now matches the Great Marsh's model.

Final (JPN)

  • The Veilstone Department Store's outside model was replaced, but was unfortunately misplaced as well.
  • The events at Spear Pillar are unchanged from Pokémon Diamond.
  • Victory Road still lacks textures.
  • The Battle Frontier maps now have their map models, though without collision and scripts (other than those necessary to start a challenge and check scores).
  • The individual facilities are in a slightly more complete state. However the Pokémon movesets are very incomplete, with most only featuring one attacking move and some - lacking any entirely.
    • The Battle Factory and Battle Hall's maps are properly textured now.
    • The Battle Castle has its full feature set now and to top it off: you can now start battles!
    • The Battle Arcade was implemented, complete with its music! Proper graphics are not yet present, however.
    • A Battle Hall run lasts for 18 battles instead of the final 10, and only one Pokémon is available per type.

Trainer Differences#

To do:
Dump the trainer data and compare it more than just the early major trainer levels

  • Gardenia's whole team is one level higher.
  • Jupiter (at Eterna Galactic Building)'s team is one level higher.

Past Eterna City, trainers appear to retain their Diamond and Pearl teams.
