This is a sub-page of Proto:Mega Man X5/May 1, 2000 prototype.
Although only three stages are playable at this point of development, nearly the entire soundtrack is on the disc, albeit unused; many of the tracks are incomplete, and some are entirely different.
Used Tracks#
Heard in normal gameplay.

Final |
Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Character Select |
The final version saw some significant changes to the melody, with no chimes being present. |
||
Stage Select |
Entirely different; a less complete version was also included in the soundtrack release. |
||
Opening Stage (X ver.) |
The track flows differently: the first part loops twice, and some instruments are changed here and there. |
||
Opening Stage (Zero ver.) |
A different take on what is essentially the same melody from the final, and it seems to have a different mood from the final. |
||
Sigma 1st Encounter |
While the basic melody is there, the track is obviously far from complete. |
||
Volt Kraken |
The guitar is more prominent than in the final. |
||
Tidal Whale |
An original track! The final game instead uses a remix of the Bubble Crab theme from X2; present in the soundtrack release under the name "Deep Sea". |
||
Burn Dinorex |
This track is missing the lead guitar and some instrumentation from the final version. Everything else appears to be the same. |
||
Boss Theme |
This track is more or less complete, though it is a bit lacking in a few places like the percussion. |
Unused Tracks#
Present on the disc but unused in normal gameplay.
WARNING! Izzy Glow and Dark Dizzy have loud glitchy noises at the end of their tracks!

Prototype |
Final |
Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Shining Firefly |
Extremely close to final with what appears to be a slightly quieter guitar and also seems to be ever so slightly slower. |
||
Spiral Pegasus |
This is almost the same as the final version, but there are a few changes. |
||
Spike Rosered |
This uses far more basic instrumentation than the final and is overall higher pitched. |
||
Dark Necrobat |
The first 50 seconds are practically the same, but after that, the song progresses in a very different way than the final. |
||
Stage Start |
Different instrumentation; there are no boss demos before the stage starts, so this track is never heard. |
||
X vs. Zero |
Different instrumentation and melodies in some parts. |
||
Dynamo |
There are different instruments for the main melody, which is slightly different itself; it may have been changed due to sounding more like a hero's theme than a villain's. Can be heard in the leftover X4 Space Port stage. |
||
Mission Report |
There is no mission report screen in this build, and this track was replaced in the final. It can be heard as the seventh music track in the gallery of Mega Man X Collection and is listed in the official soundtrack, however. |
||
Dr. Light |
Like with Duff McWhalen, this was an original track before being replaced with a remix of the X1 theme; can be heard in the gallery of the Mega Man X Collection and the soundtrack release. |
||
Zero Virus Stage Select |
Completely different to the final version, which uses a loop of the main segment of Zero Virus theme for this purpose. |
||
Zero Dead |
Different instrumentation; included in the soundtrack. |
Other#
- Crescent Grizzly, Zero Virus Stage 1, and the cutscene themes are all on the disc, and are all finalized, although Zero Virus Stage 1 does have a glitchy ending like Izzy Glow and Dark Dizzy; the Zero Virus Stage 1 theme can be heard in the training stage, however.
- X and Zero reuse their stage clear jingles from X4.
- In addition, the Iris fight, Final Weapon, "Meet Sigma" demo and J-pop songs from X4 are still present on the disc; strangely, although the Final Weapon stages are still in the files, it instead uses the Meet Sigma theme.
