This is a sub-page of Proto:Manhunt 2.

To do:
Document differences with levels and game assets, and any mechanical differences. Also document any unused content within this build.

This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.

A PSP build of Manhunt 2 dating all the way back to February 4th, 2007. This makes it four months older than the PS2 prototype and with it comes a myriad of differences and leftovers never before seen.

Startup and Menus#

Intro#

This build contains an intro movie which is completely different from the final game. This one is similar to an earlier one spotted on a developer's portfolio, but has any references to Rockstar Vienna stripped out in favor of Rockstar London and their team for the credits.

The legal screen after the intro movie is not present in the final PSP version, which is similar to the legal screen seen in the PS2 build from four months later.

Save Warning#

Rather than a title screen, this prototype shows a warning about turning off your PSP or removing the memory stick once the legal screen ends.

The menu aesthetic is entirely different, sporting the game's logo over the options. It also refers to the menu options differently in a more 'immersive' way.

Continue#

The continue screen features extra debug options that don't appear in any other version of the game.

Font Test#

The font test does what it says on the tin, tests the fonts. This is exclusive to this version of the game, but is referenced in the data of other versions.

Dev Selection#

Another option exclusive to this prototype, the dev selection lets you select any level or cutscene. This list features several levels and cutscenes that do not exist in any other version of the game. Attempting to enter them will result in a crash since they try to access data that doesn't exist in this prototype.

Missing Cutscenes#

The dev selection references several cutscenes missing from the game's data.

In Manhunt 2, cutscenes are distinguished by being intros and outros to levels. They are played before a level starts, and after. In level names, 'I' stands for intro, and 'O' stands for outro.

In total, this means about 13 cutscenes were scrapped and removed from the game before release.

Relive Episode#

The episode selection screen is quite different in 0.01, resembling the scene selection from the first game. The screen in the background also does not display a picture of the selected episode.

Oddities#

Cemetery Crash#

Completing 'Cemetery' attempts to load the level "A21_O" which would be the Outro cutscene for A21_New_House... A level that doesn't exist. Naturally, this results in a crash as it tries to access data that simply isn't there.

Release Therapy outro#

The cutscene after Release Therapy in this prototype is unexpectedly the cutscene where Dr. Whyte speaks with Danny about his past, and shows Leo murdering his wife, which is rather unfitting to be shown after this chapter. After the cutscene ends, the game is stuck on a black screen. This infers that Release Therapy might not have simply been an alternate ending like it is in the final game at an earlier point in development.

Alternate Level Order#

Despite the levels in the game appearing to be largely following the same order on the episode select, the levels themselves do not actually follow that order when played. Notably, Release Therapy (Manor) is not accessible if you were to play the game through the levels alone.
