Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors. |
A demo version of Love for Sail! was released that includes some non-interactive previews as well as the strip liar's dice minigame.

Much of the dialogue here from the characters other than the narrator appears in the final game, but the recorded takes are different.
This picture of the craps table from a distance is presented as though it appears in the final game, but it doesn't.

The craps table has a crowd of people around it in the demo, but Larry always plays craps alone in the final game. Dewmi does wander up when she notices he's winning, but she never rests her arm on the table. The background behind the characters is also different.
An early (and rather crude) version of the box art appears here. The title hadn't acquired its exclamation point yet. The subtitles (both here and elsewhere) show that the game was originally intended to be released as "Leisure Suit Larry: Yank Hers Away", which explains why "Love for Sail!" is awkwardly dubbed in by a female voice; presumably, narrator Neil Ross was unavailable to re-record his lines with the new title.
Strip Liar's Dice#
The dialogue menu isn't present, so you can't talk to Dewmi.
You can't interact with Dewmi or any of the background objects, with one exception: clicking Dewmi's breasts will cause Larry to shoot a look at the player, similarly to using "Look" on them in the final game (but without the narrator's dialogue). There is no popup menu to choose a verb; the interaction is automatic.
The Ctrl-C cheat to reveal Dewmi's cup is not implemented.
In both versions of the game, Larry can sell up to five articles of clothing and Dewmi can sell up to six. In the demo, the first article of clothing each character sells is worth $100, then each article is worth $50 more than the last, up to $350 for Dewmi's panties. In the final game, the first article of clothing each character sells is worth $100 and all the other articles are worth $150. As a result, the demo version takes much longer to finish the game and is harder to win through dumb luck.

In the final, the fountain's cascades were touched up and the disco ball had its sparkles removed.

The demo contains an unused line art version of the background used for the closeup of Dewmi. Curiously, it features two mermaids instead of a mermaid and a merman. Also curious is that the finished mermaid statue is censored in close-up but not when seen at a distance, which remains true in the final game.
Subtitle Differences#
Most if not all of the audio matches the final game, but quite a few of the subtitles use an earlier version of the script.

Outro#
The shot of Larry's cabin shows a number of differences:

In the final game, it's not normally possible for mold in the shower to form unless either Drew is in the shower or Larry has flushed her out of it (which requires hooking up the toilet and clearing its drain).
The mold is positioned and shaded differently.
The shower curtain is opaque and positioned differently in the demo.
The green canisters at the left side of the room are shaded differently.
The demo version has water leaking out of the end of the pipe. The final version only has it leaking out of the top of the pipe.
The final version removed two metal rings from the metal pipe running across the top of the screen.

In the demo screenshot, Larry appears to have an unlit cigarette in his mouth and Shamara has a lit one in her hand, and Larry's wallet is nowhere to be seen. In the final game, there is only one cigarette, which Shamara puts in Larry's mouth just after taking his wallet from his pants.
The vice grips on the nightstand to Larry's right and the Lil' Hair Weave Kit on the nightstand to Larry's left are missing in the demo.
The bottoms of Shamara's pants are shaded differently in the final, looking rather more opaque.
