Differences From Retail#

Stuff from the mod that remained and was used in retail but received significant changes in the transition.

Assets#

Characters#

There were a few characters who came from the mod to retail, and they pretty much only shared the same names with their physical appearances being very different.

Lt. Masterson#

Masterson, labeled as a sergeant in the mod, appeared in the 1.0 single player but not as a playable character. He has no description or portrait because of this. Masterson

In 2.0 and 2.1 with the single player being removed he went unused.

In the 2.5 release a different clone of him was added as a playable character. His model and textures were updated to be in the new visual style.

Description: When a DRF specialist infiltrated the Horzine biotics laboratory and killed the Masterson clone, that was the last anyone thought they would see of the man. Ironically , it was weeks later that another team found a working incubator in the derelict lab with his genetic footprint. The result was a fully functional clone, who now aids the DRF in putting down the remaining failed specimens.

Police Sgt. Davin#

Davin, who was a private in the DRF in the mod, was added in release 2.0.

Description: Private Davin is a new recruit in the Disaster Response force. He grew up in a poor Irish community and learned some of lifes lessons the hard way. Despite his rank, he is one of the more reserved, and mature members in his squad.

In 2.5, Davin's portrait was updated to use the new style. Portrait

Removed Content#

Stuff that was in the mod and removed from retail, or removed from the mod AND retail. These assets might still remain in the files of the full game, but are documented here. Some Assets might also have updated versions in later versions of KF Mod.

Assets#

"GK" Packages#

From the first version of KF Mod 2 GK packages have been in the files unused. These files do not seem to be for KF, but a different project entirely. It is unknown what exactly these were meant for and if it was ever made. You can find GKStatics, a static mesh package that has several basic shaped and pinball parts without any textures assigned.

There is also a GKTextures package that has some interesting things, such as Actor Sprites, "DemoLevelObjects", a cubemap and some flat colors (Black, Red, Blue, 2 grays.)

KFExplodingBarrelDeco#

The mod featured some explosive barrels that went unused post 1.0, however their texture was still updated to be much brighter in 2.0 onwards.

KFGrass#

A static mesh package containing modified Unreal Tournament 2004 assets. This was purged from the files for retail.

Characters#

DRF Commando#

The mod featured some generic soldier characters that didn't get any characterization and were thus unused in the final game. They were introduced in KF Mod 1.0. There was a Normal, Black, and Urban versions of the soldier that all use the same model but with different textures. Each version shares the same portrait and description. All are just named "Soldier".

Description (All): DRF commando. When the outbreak struck London, these courageous soldiers were among the first to hit the streets in defense of the public.

In the 2.0 release of the mod, the model was updated. Soldier_Black and Solider_Urban were broken with their textures being removed, but still selectable. The normal Soldier received updated textures that were shared from Davin. The descriptions and portraits were not altered. The models also received extra geometry and material slot for a scripted texture called NameTag. Presumably this would of showed the characters name dynamically on them, but it seems to just be broken in game and puts the gas mask texture where it should be.

In the 2.1 patch, Soldier_Black was fixed to use the texture from Powers. Urban remained unfinished. Soldier_Black (Note 2.1 has strangely blurry textures for unknown reasons.)

In the 2.5 release, Soldier_Urban finally got new textures, they all also received a new portrait. The broken NameTag texture was changed to just be a static texture of a nametag for PVT. Jim. Interestingly the description of the regular Soldier was completely removed, and Soldier_Urban had his description changed. There is also in a different package than all of the other characters, an unused duplicate version of the body texture, an unused gas mask variant and an unused portrait for Soldier_Urban can be found.

Description (Urban): DRF Soldier in Urban camo

They all remained unchanged in 2.51. However a 4th variant was added into the files using its own model. It was only called Horzine so it would of presumably been called Soldier_Horzine. Only the model is there so there is no portrait or description. Horzine Soldier

Sergeant Kara Barnes#

A cut character from the final game named Kara is in the mod. She was introduced in the 2.0 release.

Description: Liverpool born, Sgt. Kara Barnes was an expert marksman by the age of 18. She joined up with the DRF after flunking out of School.'When this is all over im gonna settle down. Have a family. And then burn the fucking house down.

In the 2.5 release, her hair texture was updated to look much better along with the portrait texture.

She was not changed in 2.51

Private Quick#

Only in the 2.0 and 2.1 release, Alex Quick was playable, unknown why it was removed after.

Description: Canadian Born, Private Quick was one of the few foreign applicants to make it into the DRF on the first try. Despite being almost perpetually intoxicated, his aim never seems to suffer.

Hazmat#

In the 2.5 release, A character just named Hazmat was added.

Description: Former Horzine employee. These shadowy men were behind research and development at the Horzine Biotics laboratory.

Claire the Stalker#

In the 2.5 release, a playable stalker was added. This article is marked as NSFW!

Description: Meet Claire. A DRF squad captured her, and trained her in table etiquette, the use of toilets, and finally, how to hold a firearm. All in the hopes that she put her rotting self to good use, and help tag some of her former 'colleagues'. So far, it's been a resounding success. She plans to join a book club when this is all over. And try on clothes.
