This page details one or more prototype versions of Jurassic Park (Sega CD).

This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.

A prototype dated August 3, 1993. It's mostly functional but incomplete, and there's a number of differences from the final game.

Cut Weapon#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: See if this item can be accessed in the prototype and document if its in-game icon exists or if the item can be used.

The game's binary file references a Net Gun that is not present in the final game. This reference can be seen in lines 0001DA50 and 0001DA60 of the Track 1 BIN file:

This item was cut before the final build and replaced with the Gas Grenade Launcher, which is not referenced in this build.

Debug Screen Differences#

Proto

Final

The prototype uses a similar debug screen to the final release, however the "Start to DEMO" option is not available.

Dinosaur Information Kiosk differences#

The dinosaur information kiosks are accessible through the debug menu, however only two of the four pages that appear in the final version are present in the prototype. Additionally, the FMV sequences featuring Dr. Robert Bakker have not been implemented, and some graphics present in the final version are not present.

It's so much less cool when a smart guy in a fun hat isn't telling you stuff!
The PLAY button is different than what appears in the final version, where the texture is replaced with a Play symbol instead of the word.

Area Differences#

This needs some investigation.

Triceratops Area#

Proto

Final

It ain't easy being green.

The prototype version uses a cut Triceratops model with a nice, neon green color palette. The animation cycle for the dinosaurs here are also different and shorter. The area itself is similar to what appears in the final game but is missing the crashed jeep and uses a different texture for the lockbox that contains the keycard.
