There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

To do:
Fully document the translation differences and dubbing differences. There are 11 languages in total and all of them could potentially have translation differences.

The January 19th, 2007 build of Hot Shots Tennis is a European localization prototype of the game, built 26 days before the final European release version was built (but over 6 months after the Japanese version). It was released on July 28th, 2025.

  • The title screen uses the Japanese logo.
  • The legal text is positioned slightly lower.
  • In English, the game tells the player to "Push START Button" instead of "Press START Button".
  • The "Press START Button" text was also changed in Swedish and Finnish.

Cutscenes#

  • The prototype uses the intro and credits from the Japanese version.
    • The cutscenes suffer from lag and desynced audio as the cutscenes were designed to be played in NTSC 60Hz although this prototype plays in PAL 50Hz.

Gameplay#

  • The player can press R3 to freeze and unfreeze the game during gameplay in the prototype. This also works in the pause menu, allowing the game to run while the game is paused.
  • In English, whenever there is a side switch, the game will display "Change Court" instead of "Change Side". The umpires also say "Change Court" in the English dub instead of just "Change".
  • This is why the umpires awkwardly say "Change" in the final game as the umpires use the same dialogue as the prototype but the part where they say "Court" is cut out.
