The December 7th, 1999 prototype of Hot Shots Golf 2 is a North American localization prototype of the game, built 2 months before the final US release version was built (but over 5 months after the Japanese version). It was released on April 17th, 2021 as part of Project Deluge, a big prototype release hosted by the folks over at Hidden Palace.

The prototype uses the intro from the Japanese version.

The title screen in the prototype is much closer to the title screen in the Japanese version.

Save files look different with characters being in a darker background.

Menus#

• The first 39 menu backgrounds are mostly in the same order as the Japanese version with the only exceptions being backgrounds 8, 10, 15 and 18.
• The profiles still uses renders of the original Japanese characters. The only exception is Spike who has a different color scheme.
• Like in the Japanese version, the characters on the profiles rotate around, with the player being able to manually rotate them with the L1/R1 buttons. This was removed in the final US version.
• "VS." mode uses the menu description for "Status".
• Characters on the character select screen appear in a green background rather than a pink background.
• Character's names are centered rather than being shifted to the left.
• The costume colors shown on the character select correspond with the original Japanese character's colors rather than the changed US roster.
• The borders for the Japanese characters do not display properly.
• In the "VS." mode, the Japanese characters have corrupted profile images.

Characters#

• Alternate character costumes are not implemented.
• Instead of Sam, there is a unique character known as Maryann, an American country girl. Sam's profile is present, suggesting that the decision to replace Maryann with Sam had been made before this build was compiled.
• Jesse has lighter skin and her scarf is green instead of purple.
• Rocko has a different color scheme and his eyes light up green when he is selected on the character select.
• Silvia's name is spelt as "Sylvia" on the character select.
• Charles is misspelt as "Chares" on the character select.
• Ben, Leon, Hawk, Leila, Cougar and Vader all have corrupted character icons in game.
