Watch on YouTubeThe Game Promotional Video Footage Build (Game PV Footage, GPV Footage or GPVF for short) which aired in 1991, is the last known pre-release build prior to the initial North American release, lasting just over 10 minutes with a few minor differences.

General Differences#

  • This is so far the first known build with the final game's SEGA screen (with the "SEGA!" chant), but it lacks its trademark symbol. The trademark symbol in the title screen, which was added in the USA Manual Build, was removed possibly because of the fact this build was going to be watched by the public. It would later be re-added for the final game. However, it's possible that the final SEGA screen, althrough without trademark, was already added in the GPSGSG Build, then the trademark would be added in the USA Manual Build, and then it would get removed for this build, only to get re-added in the final game.
  • The "SONIC TEAM PRESENTS" screen has been added. As a result, the "PRESS START BUTTON" in the title screen has been accidentally removed due to a bug, and remained this way in the final game.

Green Hill Zone#

  • Green Hill Zone is just about identical to REV00... except that it uses the REV01 background deformation in this build!
  • Green Hill Zone's background chunk placement has been finalized.

Marble Zone#

  • Picky can be seen in Marble Zone, along with broken torch tiles. GamePVSonic1MarbleZone1.png GamePVSonic1MarbleZone2.png

Spring Yard Zone#

  • Spring Yard Zone has the extended bassline that was changed to reuse one from earlier in the song for optimization, although it still appears in the credits.
  • Spring Yard Zone's bumpers award points indefinitely. This was changed in the final to max out at 100 points for each bumper.

Labyrinth Zone#

  • Labyrinth Zone's background is still positioned higher than normal, leading to a rather strange cut-off during Act 3.
  • This stage has an interesting sound that isn't in the final game, at 4:27.
  • A shield monitor in Labyrinth Zone Act 3 is an invincibility monitor instead, seen at 3:57.

Scrap Brain Zone#

  • While it seems that this zone is finished (as it shows Act 3; this is so far the first known build that shows Scrap Brain Zone Act 3), the commercial does not show anything of Act 1 gameplay. Because of this, it's unknown if Act 1's background is positioned correctly, or if it is still positioned higher than in the final game (shown in USA Manual Build)

Special Stages#

  • The first Special Stage has the same layout from the final, although it has different ring placement.
