This needs some investigation. |
Around 50 development reports from the director of Persona 3, Katsura Hashino. These reports show a lot of early in-development screenshots of Persona 3, and a few other games he worked on at the time, like Persona 4.

Report Vol 22 11/8/2007#
A screenshot of a early build of Persona 3 that has some differences:
- The protagonist is using a different idle pose seen unused in the final.
- Thebel looks like a twisted version of the school.
- The UI uses placeholder graphics seen unused in the final.
- On the left appears to be a skill selection.
Report Vol 23 11/22/2007#
Hashino showing off gameplay of Persona 3 early in its development. There are a few things that are the same throughout both of these early footages:
- No audio seems to have been made at this point.
- The camera angle has a top-down view perspective.
- The protagonist, who appears to be Junpei(?) And a female main character, the design would later be reworked into Yukari. All of which use their concept designs.
- UI is completely different from the final, appearing to be a mockup.
- The bottom left of the screen has text saying, "Afternoon 23".
- The right of the screen before transitioning into a battle has some info:
- Text on the top right says, "Hard"(?)
- Music notes on a pointer icon.
- HELP! with yellow text on a pointer icon.
- FREE by a pointer icon.
- The bottom right has a mini map with the floor number by it.
- Before a battle starts, the protaginist has a "!?" graphic above his head.
- The bottom right when in a battle has the persona of Vishnu of the arcana of Lovers.
- The top left of the screen when in a battle has text appears to say:
- Magic
- Gun
- Etc.(?)
- Guard(?)
Early Footage 1#
The first of the two early footages of Persona 3.
- Two party members using the protagonist model, which uses his early concept design.
- Battles would of originally have been taken place in a field, instead of a separate battle field like in the final and the second early footage. According to Hashino, this was scrapped due to memory limitations of the PS2 hardware.
- When the battle begins, the screen has a bluer tint.
- The party fights Anzu, Ghoul, and Vetala.
- A persona cutin appears when summoning a persona.
- The early protagonist cutin appears when one of the party members kills the last remaining shadow.
- After the battle, the 2 party members do a little victory animation.
Early Footage 2#
Early footage made slightly later than the previous.
- The battle transition has the camera zoom in.
- The party members, nor shadows attack, instead the shadows after a few seconds disappear.
- Before the party reunites, a party member is shown hitting a shadow.
- After the party reunites, a graphic with text saying, "The 2nd game" appears.
Report Vol 24 12/20/2007#
Around 2004, Hashino wanted to add a sense of daily life, so he and his team created a daily life simulator that would execute events, form communities, receive requests, etc. Hashino also mentions that the game would span over three years. However, he and his team thought it was too reckless. So, he made the game span under a year.

A calendar and planner that would have allowed you to enter names, execute daily activities like weekends and holidays through commands.
Image 2#
Allows you to join clubs and manifest communities. This tool would only allow up to 5.
Image 3#
Receiving a dungeon like quest. Hashino mentions this would have eventually turned into Elizabeth's requests in the final.
Image 4#
A fusion simulator that would've been accessible at the fusion facility.
Report Vol 44 11/28/2008#
Some humorous prerelease images from early development of Persona 3.
Image 1#
An image set at the Yakushima beach with Akihiko in his swimwear with the quote above the image saying, "Please be lenient". Despite taking place at the Yakushima trip, Mitsuru, for some reason, is wearing her winter Gekkoukan High outfit.
Image 2#
A early screenshot from P3 with the quote above the image saying, "Looks like a mere corpse." There are a few differences to the final however:
- Thebel has a bluer color pallete.
- No UI except the minimap.
- The minimap looks a lot more basic than the final.
- The markers on the minimap are all squares with the protagonist having a red square, Junpei having blue, and shadows having a pink square. In the final, the protagonist has a cursor marker, while party members and Shadows use a circle with blue and red colors, respectively.
