Dresses#
Upon coming up with Alice's finalized design, her dress also went through many revisions. Initially, Alice would change dresses every time she switched to one of her four tarot weapons but that aspect was dropped later on with the inclusion of additional weapons. As a result, it was decided that Alice would wear a unique dress for each domain of Wonderland. That way the costume would fit with the level's aesthetics and without interfering with the game's battle system.
A design that made it into our early prototypes had Alice changing dresses every time she switched to one of her four weapons. It looked really great, but became impractical when our weapons system changed. We decided to give Alice a unique costume for each of the Wonderland domains she would visit, a little inspired byThe Cell''. These were later expanded to include downloadable dresses and the Hysteria dress, replacing the Rage Box power-up from the first game.
From the beginning, we knew we wanted to show a meeker, more downtrodden Alice in London, the girl who had been locked up for years in an insane asylum. In contrast to the blue dress and domain dresses, this design evolved very little and without much fuss throughout the duration of the project.

Movements#
A collection of sketches that were used as a base study for Alice's movements and other actions.

Notes: Alice was going to have a dash ability that could break barriers on land and underwater.
- Alice could turn into a half-unicorn. Some kind of power-up maybe?
- Certain areas of the Deluded Depths were originally going have differences in terms of gravity. Some areas would be easier for Alice to walk rather than swim. To distinguish these, they would be colored with "heavy" (blue) and "light" (purple) water.2
Storyboards#
Here are two storyboards for the game's 2D cinematics.
