Cheat Codes#
As mentioned by Rob Titus in his Reddit AMA, there are mnemonics to remember the cheat codes for the game. The buttons are assigned letters based on their name, direction, or shape. The D-pad has Up, Left, Down, Right, giving the letters U, L, D, R, but they can also be interpreted as the directions of North, East, South, West, giving the letters N, E, S, W. Triangle gives the letter A based on its shape, Circle gives the letter O for the same reason, and X gives the letter of the same name.

Track Video Camera#
There is a camera mode that runs through the entire track following the same path as the Warp Orb weapon. It was used to make the track selection preview videos.
This camera mode can be activated while in-game with the following GameShark codes:
North America |
Europe |
Japan |
|---|---|---|

|
Press Select to enable it, and L2 to reset to the normal perspective.
Voice Clip Categories#
The character voice clips that play during races in the final game are divided into eight different event categories, each containing two voice clips. Placeholder recordings by programmer Gavin James, found in both the retail and prototype versions of the game, can be used to determine how each event was labeled internally.
Still present in the files of the North American version are lines for an additional event category that would've played when a character finishes in the top three positions. This idea was scrapped mid to late development, leaving some characters without these lines. These can be heard on the Unused Audio page.
All taunt categories are also used by boss opponents when using their weapon arsenal during boss challenges.
