This is a sub-page of Development:Left 4 Dead 2.
The official authoring tools for Left 4 Dead 2 contain a fair bit of in-development content, meant to be used as examples for modders.
Maps#
styleguide_urban#
A "style-guide" map for urban environments, similar to those seen in The Parish. It is a small, mostly developer-textured neighborhood with a park in it. One of the buildings is textured with various textures, as an example of what interior and exterior textures to use when detailing.

styleguide_swamp#
A "style-guide" map for swamp environments. It is quite similar to the second part of Swamp Fever's first map, featuring a walkway and a few shacks. A table containing four Medkits, a Pump Shotgun and SMG can be found next to one of these shacks.

styleguide_semiurban#
A "style-guide" map for suburban environments, as seen in The Parish's 3rd chapter.
Map Instances#
Various map instances are included with the authoring tools, ranging from environment entities for each base game map to other useful things.
Dead Line 2#
Dead Line 2 is Left 4 Dead 2 's version of example campaign "Dead Line" from the Left 4 Dead authoring tools. It features a modified version of the "tutorial_standards" map included with the game.
Models#
Francis_original#
The model and texture source files for Francis's Turtle Rock Studios design. Much like the other model sources, they include a batch file for compiling the model via studiomdl, and even a batch file for compiling its associated textures via VTEX.
Pistols#
Two cut pistol models known as "w_pistol_C" and "w_pistol_D" can be found in the "Starter_Kits" .zip file, at "Guns\Pistols\models\w_models\weapons\Compiling Files\dmx". They appear to be modeled after a Ruger P95R and M1911 respectively. Neither of them have any flashlights attached.
These pistols' textures are nowhere to be found in the game or authoring tools, however, they can be found in the Left 4 Dead Zero leak as part of the "4pistols" texture atlas.
Didgeridoo#
The viewmodel for the unused Didgeridoo melee can also be found in the "Starter_Kits" .zip file, at "Melee\Didgeridoo\models\weapons\melee\Compiling Files\dmx" as "v_didgeridoo_ref".
